Hans and Anka picked up us at the hotel about 9:30. We went to visit the parents of Anka and Nieske. Their mother Gepke and Joel's father John were cousins. Their mothers were sisters. John's mother Bertha was the only one in her family to emigrate to the U.S. In 1910 after marrying Joe Kooistra.
Even though Gepke never visited the U.S. because of poor health, her English is perfect. She is 88 years old. Her husband ...

... The wind started to pick up and the kite boarders and wind surfers came out of the woodwork. I think that this must be one of the better areas to partake in wind sports as the wind is both strong and steady. After watching the kite boarders from the top of the main dyke for a while, we rode home along the front of the dyke for around 3 kms. ... up camp we took our bikes for a short ride down to the dyke to look at the sea. The sea is very flat and very shallow. The rocks were covered in small mussels and close to the harbor there were oyster beds with huge oysters. The area is a holiday destination and is fantastic for sailing, kite boarding, cycling, bird watching and hiking.

And so back to camp for a braai with cold drinks.

... were on our planned route so that we would hopefully stay on track. What we didn't realize is that we had three ferries to catch. Ferries over around 20-40 meters of water admittedly, but ferries none the less. Our failure to predict these ferries resulted in us getting temporarily lost again.

The people in Holland are I think the most friendly people that I have ever met in ...

    Cycling and map confusion

... bicycle trails are very well mapped and marked so it shouldn't have presented any problems, however we failed to take into account that the different trails not only criss-crossed each other but also shared the same numbers. So when we arrived at say point 99 we discovered that there were several point 99's on our map and we had no idea which was which. After cycling around in circles for a few hours, in which we experienced ...
