Utrecht, Utrecht, Netherlands claraklaver... ice ! - or ice swimming if your ryan ! (note for future -the ice is thinner underneath trees ! ) Mother nature even managed to time the little bit of snow that we had to come just as we & 500 other santa clauses where doing a 5km fun run around the harbour ! - what a sight ! We had a short weekend away in Brugge, Belgium , just before christmas and enjoyed their finnish coffee ( a stronger nicer version of irish coffee) and even i enjoyed ...
Dordrecht, Netherlands amberyan... where both Lonely Planet and the satnav claimed it to be. The inscrutable dutch receptionist greeted us with a look that said "wow! someone found my hotel", and checked us into a nice room at the top. Finally secure for the night, we set off in search of dinner, only to discover the entire town closed. After several restaurants full of dutch couples finishing coffee turned us away, we eventually found Den Bosch's ...
Den Bosch, Noord-Brabant, Netherlands simon_and_tess... fast) and climb as high as 95 meters. Against the better judgment of my calf, I opted to climb anyhow, and it wasn't all that bad - the tour came with built in catch-your-breath points so all of us had time to recover before dying anew. The views from the top were spectacular - all of Utrecht arranged before us like dollhouses, and buildings in the hazy distance proved to be Rotterdam and Amsterdam. On a clear day you can't see forever ...
Den Bosch, Netherlands andrefranca... noting that it is a dog friendly place) and admiring the resident heron, to a place called "Nieuwe Binnenweg" which in the early parts has some houses and businesses from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Many of the buildings are newer and while they have tried to keep to the older styles, they have not succeeded. At some point you come to another singel (Westersingel) which has lots of statues to people beside it. Carrying on along the Oude (old) Binnenweg I began to ...
Rotterdam, Netherlands lroff... and moustach. Then we also had some really nice conversation while walking in town sometimes on a funny complaining way (I was a bit more tired and gnagna mood). The canals in Utrecht are indeed really nice compare to Amsterdam and the city is quite calm. We took a picknick lunch along the canal and later walk back before I could get to the net and then leave to start HH to Leiden. The first spot was ok but it seemed obvious nobody ...
Utrecht, Netherlands maplefantaYou will laugh....I am in my last country...Holland, and it has been an adventure. We took the train from Hannover to Utrect, and caught a taxi to the hostel, only to find that we are staying at the same hostel, but at a different location. So we caught another set of taxis to the right place, only to have to ring the doorbell for about ten minutes before anyone answered. We finally found someone. and they directed us to our room, which is a traditional hostel ...
Utrecht, Utrecht, Netherlands elizabessie... see Pic 37). They are bags with zippers that have the zippers clamped closed so that those sneaky monkeys can't pickpocket the guests or steal their lunches. I guess this is pretty much needed since one monkey came over to me, reached in my shirt pocket, saw that it was empty, did the same with Julie, and kept moving, onto someone who hadn't followed the rules. It was real cute though. The zoo was really great. It was basically set up like a park with trees all over the ...
