... life here? OK..it's Monday...I can go to the drycleaners now but the grocery store is closed until 10. Wait...is it 10 on Mondays or Tuesdays? I can just ride by on my bike and see if it's open. Oh wait, I can't do that...my bike is in the repair shop and I can't remember if it's Sunday or Monday they are closed. Oh man this place makes my head spin. I am telling you...an opening hours business guide...that's our ticket to early retirement.
And I hate to say ...
... a restaurant which reminded me of the Morty's Chicken BLT, which made me very happy (I missi Morty's). We did do one thing, which I found very cool - we climbed Domtoren Tower, a very old bell tower that used to be connected a church. It's about 7 euros and you get a tour of it, but you have to be willing to climb about 500 very scary stairs. This was harder than I thought it was going to be! The view at the top is worth it though!
... when Breony left , we got a pet gerbal and it came on a Sunday drive with us to Dusseldorf in Germany last weekend This weekend - which is a whole story in its own , was going to be another nice sunday drive to the North of The Netherlands where ryan was to play his first rugby game (he is quiet famous in our local area for his involvment in the rugby - hes already been in the local paper twice ! ) So we all got up at the crack of dawn - because ...
Utrecht, Netherlands amberyan... where both Lonely Planet and the satnav claimed it to be. The inscrutable dutch receptionist greeted us with a look that said "wow! someone found my hotel", and checked us into a nice room at the top. Finally secure for the night, we set off in search of dinner, only to discover the entire town closed. After several restaurants full of dutch couples finishing coffee turned us away, we eventually found Den Bosch's ...
Den Bosch, Noord-Brabant, Netherlands simon_and_tess... especially as we were in europe, and a massive selection of drinks on offer, we felt as though we would happily move to Utrecht just to chill out there. Unfortunately I cant remember the name of the place, but if anyone wants to fly me out there I will happily point it out to them. We spent the rest of the evening packing, and preparing for the next days travel, which would see us take 3 trains to our next destination.
Den Bosch, Netherlands andrefranca... water through if they were touched and they were touched most of the time. We strolled aimlessly through the cobbled town following a canal which unlike most canals in this country was several metres below street level and at times the houses fronted directly onto it as in Venice. We found the cathedral which had one of the tallest spires I can recall seeing and the usual cavernous interior. I think we are ...
Utrecht, Netherlands brianc... the traveler's cheques I bought many years ago) was very low right now. I got about 30 Euro for $100. It started to rain in earnest so I found a place to have lunch, called the "Hazz-Bas": I had a pannenkoekken with cheese and mushrooms and it was delicious - even if I am not a pancake person. Added sprinkled sugar and stroop (syrup) and it was just great. Carried on walking about and walked past, I think, the Staadt house where people were getting married - at least a ...
Rotterdam, Netherlands lroffWent to Rotterdam today (see next posting) The city was bombed during the war and the post-war construction is not that impressive. The city centre is ringed by dual carrigeways and the buildings are an odd collection of styles from 1950's to present day. Not dissimilar to Liverpool, or Southampton. walking through the main shopping areas at 10am on a ...
Rotterdam, Netherlands damo100... ev**y corn** trying to sell coccaine or ectasy started to blend into the gen**al flavor. I didn't get a whole lot of sleep but I really dont think that I missed it much. I met lots of Calgarians in Amst**dam which I thought was kinda strange but really cool. It really only rained twice but while it was raining my stomach started turning due to flood anxiety. I can't tell you how many times I was just about ready to flee. I really ...
