... Our rooms were old but very comfortable, with nice beds and bathrooms and free WiFi.
We had a buffet dinner after a freshen up - the meals on tour have been extraordinarily good - and time to chat with the others before doing some washing and hitting the sack.
So our tour is nearly at an end - only tomorrow left and it will be a big one, with a city walking tour, a drive out into the country for lunch at a farmhouse and a gala farewell dinner at ...

... don't get numb hands, but this kept making my trousers fall down, which isn't a good look at my age.

There was another fortuitously placed playground by the basilica walls, at the highest point of the area, so I had a ready reason for sitting down again - playgrounds are free, cafes are not - and Squirt could impress the native kids with her monkey bar skills again. It's important when you travel with a child that you make time every day for them ...

... In our carriage we had a family of Australian- Croatians. We ere pretty exhausted at this time and not really socialites, but I overheard her talking to some other people on the train about the history of the cities we passed, some of which had marks of the war visible to our passing eyes. She talked also about her husband finding landmines near where she lived, wen he was a youngster. The hills ha some villages she could talk about, most of the journey ...

Zagreb's Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary can be seen far around the city, begun in the 13th century, and gradually rebuilt after it suffered serious damage in the earthquake of 1880.
