Au Revoir Maroc!

... so slimy, and lots of ancient winding streets to connect it all. Some interesting observations: Moroccan men love their coffee, tea, and people watching. In cafe's all chairs are faced to the street and everyone sits facing one direction as if at a theatre with the street as the stage. Every street has a cafe and they are always busy. With giving to the poor a ...

To add insult to injury I forgot to take my belt off, which always beeps so I had to stand and spread em while I was searched and wet patch was revealed to all - the search was brief - I don't think they wanted to touch me....

Leaving Morocco - a place we will miss...

Morocco has been on our list of places to visit since we started to think about visiting Europe just under a year ago and we are very happy that we made it. You may have read by now about the insanity which is Marrakech and the peace that is Essouria; now it is time to introduce the commercial grittiness that is Casablanca. Casablanca is the commercial capital of Morocco, Rabat is the political capital. As a result, Casablanca has all the symptoms of a large commercial hub; people ...

Cruisin' In Casablanca

... Morocco that non-muslims can enter.  We made it in time for the last tour of the day and were astounded, not only at the sheer scale of everything, but at the ornate detail with which everything was constructed.  From the inlaid marble floors to the intricate wooden screens, and elaborately carved and painted ceilings, no detail was overlooked, and obviously no expense spared. After the mosque we wandered back through the streets, past the slums and ...

... best to stay indoors and respect the time for breaking the fast. Someone was mugged last night. We have tea and a snack at the cafe downstairs, at 4pm everything shuts and everyone disappears. Some boys playing football in the street are told off by an older man. We go to Hotel Guynemer for dinner at 8pm. Everything is very quiet. But at 9pm it is like a football crowd. Our hotel overlooks a mall, and all the shops are open. It is 11pm, and very busy.

Djema El Fna - it was nice knowing you

Well 'they' have gone and done it 'they' have. They have done what they always can't help themselves to do. And, they didnt consult me. Me, whom has shared in the cultural and historical legacy of it......someone who has lived and breathed and tasted it.....and thereby has an attachment to it in much the same way that someone who has lived in London is always a Londoner....or someone who has lived in New York is always a New Yorker. I feel rather like the father of young ...

So now it has become more of a tourist/fishing town that sells lots of fresh seafood and the city has an old walled in medina like most others in morocco. We stayed within the medina here though and spent time just wandering around and looking at shops and such. It was a comfortable place to walk and spend time and given more time we probably would have tried kite surfing because it looks like heaps o
