... trip began at the old port which is down a zig zagging steep switchback road, and then on to a replica sailing ship, which holds about 40-50 passengers. Lucky it was not full .... Off we sailed to what looked like an island, but in reality was a volcano. Up close it was like nothing I've seen before. Chunks of volcanic black dried lava boulders of all sizes and shapes made up the island. We were given a safety briefing, then taken up a pebbly, steep track to ...

We played a lot of heads up and turned it into a drinking game which fuelled many laughs. All the main clubs and bars were on ...

We enjoyed lunch on the boat, including a birthday cake for the birthday girl, before heading ashore ...

... the top. Spectacular. The island is the remainder of a volcano with a new tip of volcano emerging in the middle of the old crater ( 300 years new ). Onto boats to get to port then into a bus 11 hairpin corners up, up to drive along the island to the village Oia. ( pronounced Air with a wee roll of the R ) now this is everything and more than I anticipated of a Greek island. So incredibly beautiful. White buildings, blue roofs, church domes, blue water below, ...

      Abandoned old church

So today I took Yang up to the abandoned church behind our hotel. The idea of being abandoned on a busy island like Santorini is unique but our hotel is on the east side of the island, in a very sparsely populated area. Its hard to describe but its situated on the flatland, with its back against the mountain and only about 300 meters from the sea. There are no ...
