... people gyrated (I suppose it was dancing?) in colourful costumes – or rather accessories! All to celebrate the end of the sugar cane harvest and the success of the rum production!
On one day we hired a car and explored the island – marvelling at the ferocious seas of the Atlantic at Animal Flower caves and Bathsheba compared to our gently lapping, clear, warm, blue waters on the west coast ...
So, after 5 days worth of failed attempts trying to fly standby, I came to the realisation that this is probably going to be impossible for the next month at least. There were 40 other people waiting with me in standby, many of them AA staff, many of them with families and many of them completely stranded for one reason or the other - a few were stuck behind too many people in line and checkin ...
Rockley, Barbados kilgiraffeThis is my third day trying to get out of the island on standby. I was 38/47 on the list earlier. So many families of staff members using their tickets for holiday.. It's insanity. It seems to be impossible to get out of the Caribbean right now! Hopefully I'll figure out something soon, otherwise I may have to cancel parts of my itinerary.. :(
Rockley, Barbados kilgiraffeThis morning Travis set out to do something he's been talking about doing since we went to Hawaii -- he took a surfing lesson. I, on the other hand, can only imagine being frustrated by trying to balance on a board that's constantly trying to slip out from beneath your feet, so I was perfectly content to sit on the beach, read, watch the action, and shoot photos.
We headed just down the street to a little shack of a surf shop (v. similar to ...
... The island is so beautiful with all of its tropical exotic trees and colours. One could stay here forever.
We were then driven through Holetown, where the island's first settlers landed in 1627. Upon our return, we passed in front of numerous luxury hotels and houses.
The island is purely marvelous. Our short stay here provided us with lots of memories that we will cherish forever.
Thankful for scenic drives.

... huge sea turtles swimming one next to the other one in their environment. What a beautiful scene! Too bad I couln't take any pictures, my camera not being waterproof. Small coloured fishes could also be seen next to some huge yellow angelfish. Here I was, in the Caribbean Sea snorkeling. I was this little (well not so little) fish swimming in this huge aquarium. It was a dream come true. It was magic ...
Bridgetown, Barbados matt13... streets but it was better. Many of the early colonial buildings have been preserved and in some cases upgraded. The supermarkets here are much closer to what we might expect to see (althought still smaller of course) than was Grenada. Very good range of products on the shelves. My (Rob) gluten-free supplies are still really limited. Our hotel (referred to as a resort) is on a beautiful beachfront with a sprawling lawn area and ...
Bridgetown, Barbados robliz... it was kinda intense jumping right in there and trying to learn on waves that were taller than me, so i got pounded pretty bad. i was able to catch waves easily enough, but standing up was difficult. after i tried for about an hour, i let the other girl come out and try. she decided to go around a little bend to a cove where the waves were much smaller, and i did that too. it was way easier out there, and i was able to stand and ride out a few small waves, which was cool. then ...
Bridgetown, Barbados bdaly334Well a week has passed and as Eddie would say, what a big week it has been. As I sit here in the inadequate American Airlines lounge let me fill you in one some happenings. Arriving into the mass confusion that is Barbados airport where the immigration are oblivious to the hundreds of people in line and process forms at the speed of sloth it was still good to be in the Caribbean. They operate slowly but they are very friendly and always want to ...
