We have finally begun our road trip through Myanmar! Thanks to our lovely Myanma guide, Meemee, in Yangon, we have hired a car (with aircon!) that will drive us north through the country stopping at all the major points of interest. Our itinerary will take us through Bago, Kyaikto, Inle Lake, Bagan, and the last stop Mandalay. From Mandalay, we will fly back to Bangkok. After much negotiation on a pick up time, our ...

Kinpun

The journey from Mawlamyine to Kinpun took us through some beautiful countryside. First we passed over the Than-Lwin bridge before driving through fields and jungle, past villages and hundreds of golden spires. Our first bus ride confirmed a rumour we'd heard about the Burmese being bad bus travellers. No they weren't all on their phones, or smoking, or spitting, or making a lot of noise. Yes they did need sick bags handed out, and a girl in the seat opposite ...

Shortly after the departure of Inle Lake, I have a flat tire again. I'm getting enough of it, as I have already patched the tube 6 times. Now, however, the valve is broken and I need to use my spare tube. By the way, I am meanwhile very quickly and I fix a rear tire in 30 minutes. The problem now is that I no longer have a spare tube and nothing may happen. ...

This is the best hotel near the top, but still fairly basic. We missed nothing essential though. We recommend it for those who want to walk up to the rock early in the morning, which we did. Sunrise at the rock is spectacular.
    Food is decent, no problems.
