... in Aksum. In return for these goods, we received many of the fine goods that local merchants wished to export from inland India. Among these goods were many elegant textiles, as well as local medicinal and aromatic herbs.

We did not spend very long in this town because much greater wealth awaited us further south, so there is not much else to say.

... large number of sarees. I mean I had never seen that many sarees, that many clothes lying at one place.

Once I got sarees for awfully cheap price, we went home. Then I rested there for sometime, before going to the bus stand to catch my bus to Udaipur.

About Surat, I must say this. If anyone is planning to by sarees for ceremonies like weddings, Surat is the place to be. The length and breadth of the textile market there is as big as a small town....

Spent a very short time in Vanesa, which is where Hirals dad is from. Since they are building a new house there...we were sent to do some interior decorating. This task actually made us excited to build our own home...but I'm not sure exactly when that's going to happen. ... rural setting with tick a long people just getting by. This is much more my thing than 5* silliness where people do everything for you. If you travel the world and stay in these sort of places you learn nothing about the locals but I guess your toilet roll gets folded nicely into a point. It's a bloody toilet roll!!!!! ... so we decided to spend time in KFC. Aha, this is the fried chicken lover's heaven I would say. We missed it a lot, as there was no KFC in Surat. Ate a lot of fried crispy chicken, spicy burgers and krushers and finally left for the boarding point.

It was an old theatre "Sheila Talkies- India's first 35mm cinema". Reminded me of my home town. A couple of them still run there ...
