The bus ride from Shanghai to Meicheng (where the master carver lives) was very industrial. Basically the outskirts of Shanghai look like very industrial slums. The buildings were all rundown, probably from the horribly humidity and lack of maintenance. Also, the traffic was HORRIBLE. Some were tied to little buoys tied to make them a little more visible to passing ships but many were just splashing around without. Not only for the danger of the passing boats, but also simply because of all the **** in the river, you'd not cach me doing that, but each to their own I guess.
