Day 45-46

Day 45 & 46 Las Vegas Round Two I have no business cards. Yeah, I realized this morning that I'm going to NAB and I have no business cards anymore. So, I spent the morning making some quick ones in Publisher and then running off to Kinkos. There are a few key contacts here I'd like to have them for, and well, for the prize drawings too. So, most of the days we've been on the road we've been staying in hotels. And most of them have been in Days Inn and Super 8s. And there's nothing wrong w...

From the sublime to the ridiculous

Las Vegas - what a shock to the senses after the serenity of the National Parks we have been visiting. The sounds, the sights, the scale, the smells - the people, the waste, and the extravegance. The Strip does truly have to be seen to be believed, especially at night. Crazy town, crazy people -and perhaps too many Elvis clones and slot machines!

We stayd in the Golden Nugget, off Fremont Street. This is a covered street, and the cover is one hugh screen, showing a variety of odd clips...

Land of neon, gambling, booze and hookers

The first thing Amy would like me to point out was that the the drive to Vegas was @&$^&# hot! Well being we had to cross the Mohave desert, this was expected. However, Lou is a little weak on the air conditioning....and it did reach 118 according to the giant thermometer in Baker, California. And there sure isn't much to see though I found the desert driving kind of mesmorizing. Remember those B horror movies on Creature Feature. You know, the ones where the giant ants attack. it loo...

Viva Las Vegas

Miles so far: 3745 Tolls: None! Money lost: Meaghan - about $20 John - $300 Ashley - $80 I think Flyers for hookers collected: About 30, mailing them to AJ When we got to Nevada, it was a toasty 110 degrees. We first stopped at the Hoover Dam and joined the hundreds of other tourists. When we got to Vegas, we first stayed at the Golden Nugget in downtown, not on the strip. We were totally clueless about the whole free valet parking and bellboy services. We had no idea what to tip, how to tip,...

Sin City

Due to the train and connecting bus schedule we were doing to arrive at night again. But this time I was pleased. When we found our way to our bus there were only 3 other passengers. After busy delayed trains, it made a nice change. The bus driver seemed like a cool guy, so we asked him if there was any chance we could be dropped off at our hotel and not the bus depot. As luck would have have it, the depot was actually across the road from our hotel anyway. It was a relief knowing that we wer...

Van Grand Canyon naar Las Vegas

Tusayan - Williams - Hoover Dam - Boulder - Las Vegas 276 miles (442 km)

Vegas without gambling!

Whilst in America I also did a fair bit of traveling when ever possible. My first bit of traveling myself and Mark went to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. We flew in from New York and stayed at the Golden Nugget Hotel which was not on the strip but in the down town area of the city. Las Vegas really is all it is cracked up to be. The city really is just a playground for adults. Whilst there we did not really gamble much because I am not much of a gambler and Mark was only 20 at the time. We s...

Stunning grand canyon

When I was in Las Vegas me and Mark took a trip to the grand canyon. We had organised our trip before we arrived into Vegas which was really easy to do. We were picked up by our tour company and driven to the airport where we jumped on a plane that would take us to the grand canyon. We were on a small plane of about 12 seats that flew over the grand canyon and also the hover dam that provided us with great views of the canyon. When we landed at the airport we went on a helicopter which was my...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Golden Nugget Hotel And Casino Las Vegas

Never again!

from Wubby
I was truly looking forward to my stay at Golden Nugget. This was our fourth stay in Vegas and I wanted to try staying downtown once. The second night we were there I was awoken by dripping water that was landing all over my clothes in the suitcase! It was water leaking from the roof! It was 5am. I called the front desk and they sent someone to our room to check it out. They gave us NO explaination, but did offer to send our clothes in for drycleaning. When I went to check out of the hotel, they tried to charge ME for the drycleaning! I was furious! The snotty front desk clerk called the manager who told him that I did NOT have to pay. Thank goodness. Overall, I did not think that this place was a 5 star hotel. I am not by any means picky, I travel with the military all over the world and stay at much worse places, but normally the service is better! Who cares that the place is clean and neat, if the staff is horrible to you! Never again!

Disappointed

We have been staying at the Golden Nugget twice every year for the last give years, while the reservations staff at the hotel has always been less than friendly (with very long waits) the room is clean and the security is great. This trip for some reason the water smelled like sulfar (did they change their well or something?) so the bathroom smelled horribly. We reserved the room with a deal from Private Arrangement giving us our last night free. We could have reserved using a promotion from their website at a slightly more expensive rate but decided to go with the Private Arrangement. After checking out, they said they had no record of the last night free and made us pay despite telling them that we were confirmed for the last night free. They charged us full price, not even offering the website promotion. We contacted Private Arrangement, no one would honor the reservation. We could have reserved in the beginning with the internet promotion for a better rate. The fact that we stay there twice a year every year simply did not matter to them. Customer service is not important to the Golden Nugget. We will never be staying there again. If you stay there, be sure to get your room rates in writing (copy it in triplicate) before checking in so that you do not have any surprises. And, take extra freshner for the bathroom. ;-)

Let down

from Caribbeanlovers
The front desk staff on arriving were very nice, as well as the staff in the restaurants. Zax restaurant was WONDERFUL! But!!! the casino bartenders and dealers were VERY RUDE. The cocktail waitresses were non-existent. We stayed for four days and spent little time in the casino. Had more fun at the Fremont casino. It's a shame because it's a beautiful hotel. We will not stay downtown again.

Love this place!!

Wonderful Hotel, super friendly desk staff. The MOST COMFORTABLE bed I have ever slept in, wish I had it at home!Room was gorgeous, beautiful furnishings. Right in the middle of all the Freemont St action, yet so quiet in the room. What more can I say, I will only stay at the Golden Nugget when in Vegas.

Absolutely the Greatest

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stay at the Nugget two or three times a year and have for the past 7 years. NEVER had a bad stay. Fabulous in March for Final Four. A little crowded at the sports book though. Fantastic bars; great restaurants; $5 tables earlier in the day. If you have never stayed downtown, you don't know what you are missing. You'll love the Fremont Street Experience!

One of the BEST

from A TripAdvisor Member
I travel to Vegas quite a lot for business, and quite often for pleasure, and I have stayed at most of the Strip hotels. More often than not I stay at the Golden Nugget. Why? It's one of the best hotels in town (Mobil and AAA 4 Star/Diamond). It's much easier to get around town from the Nugget than it is from the Strip and the hotel is much smaller than most strip hotels. Valet parking is steps away from check-in. The North tower room elevators are steps away from check-in. The casino is steps away from the elevators. The rooms are beautiful. The food in Carson St. is terrific, and the buffet is excellent. The dealers, waitresses, pit staff, and dealers are all nice to deal with. Since it's downtown, you can also find $5 tables, which have disappeard on the strip. My wife loves it and I love it. We've never had a bad stay at the Golden Nugget. It's absolutely the hidden treasure of Las Vegas.

Disenchanted Visitor

from A TripAdvisor Member
I would never recommend this hotel as they do not stand up to their so called reputation. I requested for non-smoking room 8 months in advance, upon checking in even after I confirmed the status I was not given a non-smoking room. Their food service was "terrible" no variety, same type of food service every day for 7 days stay. Front-desk agent was very rude and not very helpful even knowing that I was not happy. Did not even try to help"fix" the problem. Such a shame for a 4 star hotel. I would give them a 1 star at best.

Golden girl

from A TripAdvisor Member
A grand old girl in the downtown area. top hotel on freemont by a long shot. great staff, food, and rooms. gambling not quite as good as the casinos across the street but at least clean and not to smokey. good pool with misters to keep cool. the coffee shop, Carson st cafe, is one of the best in the whole city, renowned for price and portions. will be staying there again for sure!

Always great

from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel's best feature is the main lobby - there are no slot machines, it's beautifully decorated, and the personnel who staff it provide excellent service. Once you step beyond that, the rest of the hotel and casino is consistently the same. The other great feature is the location of the self-parking garage. You don't have to hike for fifteen minutes or more just to go to your car. I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

A complete vacation experience under one roof!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Why spend vacatation time traveling from destination to destination? The Golden Nugget has everything you need for a total vacation experience under its roof! They have their own hotel casino, a wonderful spa in which I pampered myself daily, excellent restaurants and a beautiful swimming pool. If shopping is your thing, they have a gift shop in the hotel as well. If you do feel the need to see the lights, they are right on the old strip and the light show is marvelous! Just stroll out of the door and there you are! The accommodations were very reasonable and I found the facilities just as aesthetically pleasing as many of the higher priced "up-scale" hotels and casinos.
