Took a day trip by car to visit a few Tulou clusters near where I was staying. The Tulou are absolutely stunning. Self contained multi-story villages. They all had wells in the interior courtyard as well as sometimes wells in the living spaces. The first group I went to was vey peaceful because it was earlier in the morning and not the huge tourist draw. Had a great time wandering around. Then I went to see "King Tulou" the claim to fame of which is that it's ******* huge. Like really ...

There are about 15,000 family villages such as mine in the area. The area I am in falls under the UNESCO World Heritage designation. Flag waving tour leaders march their armies of tourists into each round house, squawking through plastic speakers, shattering the peace and harmony of life here. I ...

... reaching the panda exhibit. The two pandas are 'married' but hate each other. They are always on opposite sides of the cage : ). Luckily, one of the pandas was sitting lazily on a platform covered in a blanket of bamboo while it chowed down. Every once in a while, she/he would throw the bamboo everywhere then settle down to eat again. We got some very good pictures of this one but the other one had its head in a cave...and no ...

... at the station and we had another 1,5h in a private bus on bumpy roads before arriving the tulou.

One of the houses has partly been converted to hostel and a simple café/restaurant where you can get your noodles. Our room was nice with a working heater/AC and an ensuite with hot water.

The next day we started with a tour of the main tulou that is a museum today. Our guide even showed us the ...
