Arrival in Singapore

The flight was smooth and for a 12 hour flight the time seemed to fly by (dam those puns). This may have been due to the excellent in-flight entertainment but more likely was due to the fact the plane was not full which meant we could sit two to a four person row, allowing lots of stretch out space.Arriving at Singapore was a breeze the immigration speedy and efficient and when we got to the baggage hall our bags were with us within a couple of minutes - quite unlike anything I have experience...

Singapore Day 2

Still have not sorted out what we are going to do about getting into Thailand, so this morning I decided to head out to the tube (MRT)  station and benefit from the superfast and free wifi for a few hours - nice and cool and simple.  After a few hours surfing the best option seemed to be take a coach from Singapore to KL and then see what the situation is after a few days and if it was looking OK we would move closer to the Thai border and again look at our options. Today my wife was the firs...

Singapore, Clean and Beautiful

7:30am Sabastian calls our room, he's wide awake and ready for a swim.I have to try to find a way out of Singapore so just my wife joins him and Sasha for a swim while I 'surf the net' or not! That little item took about an hour as the receptionist the night be before had told me that the three hour internet option was not for three hours continuous use but she was wrong, it was a one log in only deal. With great politeness and self control I explained to the receptionist that there had been ...

Singapore = SHOPPING MALL

After our last blog, we were spending our last night in Koh Chang, Thailand and were leaving early the next day. Some of you will know about the little "incident" that night that resulted in 2 visits to separate hospitals, the police being called and an insurance claim..... not bad for a couple of hours work! The story goes..... Sitting in a bar in White Sands Beach town (Koh Chang) after having our dinner in a very good steak house. There was a live band, and quite a few people enjoying a dr...

Auckland to Singapore

Last Day in New Zealand: David's friend Campbell and his expecting wife, Karen, (baby due in early April) were very generous hosts. After sleeping in until 10:30 am and relaxing around their home in the morning, we picked up lunch and drove along the harbor front to find a place to picnic. We spent about an hour sitting near one of Auckland's beaches watching the swimmers (wishing that we had brought our swim wear) and eating lunch. Then Campbell dropped us off at the Auckland museum to see a...

Singapore Arrival

Finally we arrived in singapore....after an 8 hour delay and major TYPHOONS hitting, we made it here. The flight was a bit scary with lots of turbulance. BUt luckily Jeff and I were so tired, we slept almost the whole first 14 hour leg of our trip. When we arrived we jumped on the convient MRT, which is handy train station here. IT comes right out of the airport to the city. Our hotel, GOLDEN LANDMARK, was only a block away. When we arrived our room was not ready so we left our bags and headi...

Arrived in Singapore

After arrival in Singapore it was surprisingly quick through immigration as there was almost no queue and then bags weren't too long in coming either. Caught taxi to our hotel after finding ATM at airport which were at the far ends of the terminal. Taxi also took longer than normal as Singapore's first Grand Prix was to be staged at the end of the week so some roads were closed. We didn't know this until after we booked. Heat in Singapore was very damp and upon arrival at hotel at 9amish no r...

Day 2 Singapore a late start

Woke up this morning when maid arrived to clean the room. It was after 10am and we had gone to sleep not long after 10pm! It was almost midday before we got out and went to look at Little India and get something to eat. On this trip we found an all night stack em high sell em low shop and also Bev found her perfume at an extraordinary low price. Brunch consisted of their toast and cheese with 2 soft boiled eggs (just hot water tipped on them). We then toured the many malls of Orchard Road for...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Golden Landmark Hotel Singapore

Good location but rooms very dirty

from A TripAdvisor Member
The location is quite good, it is near the MRT station and serveal large shopping centres. However, the room is terrible, furniture is quite old and the carpet is dirty. The toilet is also not clean enough. When I was sleeping in the bed, I felt there were fleas. The second night I even found hundred of bugs on the dressing table! It is impossible that such situation will found in a four-star hotel!

Great location, iffy hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
I chose the Golden Landmark over the internet, due to its good location in Singapore. I loved the Bugis Center and the Arab District nearby, as well as a convenient subway station. However, the actual hotel and the shopping center it sits in was just barely tolerable. The staff was over-worked and not interested in service. The hotel suffered from a low level of maintenance; the safe didn't work, the air conditioning was stuck on high until a worker came and repaired it, and I heard other guests asking for repairs as well. Breakfast, included in the price, was terrible.

Better than Expected

from HONEYMANGeelong
We enjoyed our stop over in Singapore and the Goldern Landmark Hotel was very good. Close to Little India and we wandered the streets until late at night safely, and the service at the hotel was good, rooms clean and good value, our group of 13 had no complaints. I am looking forward to returning to Singapore.

Live singapore

stayed in singapore for 10 days in august this year.first impressions of the hotel were okay but once you got inside the lobby and up to the room, i was pleasantly surprised. the room was quite big, the decor was slightly outdated, but the views from the 16th floor made it very acceptalbe! there was 2 resteraunts i only tried one "mooi chins" prices very reasonable and quite delish. pool area fab was quite quite when i was there even though the hotel was quite busy. Just a stine throw awy was the delights of raffles . Singapore gin slinhs well what can i say it lives up the comments every body gives it.you havent been to singapore until youve been to raffles. i had a ball in singapore and anybody who has a desire to go - do it - your only young once. Stay at the golden landmark if you want something comfortable and affordable and dont foget the singapore sling. oh the windows could have been doing with a clean but dont let theat put you off!

Doing you a favour by allowing you to stay!

expect no welcome smiles ,but to be told to wait indefinitely till rooms are readied as the hotel is overbooked.

virtually no room service,

staff arrogant to say the least ,from the manger on duty to the bell captain who will show frank displeasure if you have large suitcases.

expect no words like sir or madam when being adressed.

be extra creful of the lady at the travel desk full of false greetings turning foul moment you do not book tours with them!

Not Bad...

from A TripAdvisor Member
It's my first time to visit Singapore. I chose GL becoz of its convenience to MRT (less than 5 mins from Bugis) and it's fair price.

Overall it's okay and not bad. Places are clean and tidy. I lived in higher floor and I can see a part of the Esplanade and Fullerton. The building somehow looks quite old, and also the furniture/facilities inside the rooms too.

Staffs in the concierge is not friendly enough. Their repairing team is not trained how to face the guests. My room's hairdryer didn't work, and surprisingly he stayed in my room to fix it and installed a new one (changed the plug). He wasted me 30 more minutes in the morning!

Will choose another one next time when I'll be there again, coz many choices there!

Just watch out for the crowds

from bobby_l
The Golden Landmark is a reasonable hotel in a very nice location. The rooms are fine, and the rates (especially through a discounter, or with a tour package) can be exceptional. One problem, though, and it can be a major one... with so many tourist groups, the queues at the front desk can be horrendous. And for some reason, the hotel doesn't encourage queuing - it is more like a free-for-all for check-in and check-out. And if you happen to want to have breakfast at the time when the groups are there, the place is totally packed. For me, the problems accessing the front desk really ruined what is otherwise a very nice hotel. If you happen to check in at a time when the groups are not also checking in, you will find the area around the Golden Landmark to be terrific - great location near Bugis, easy access to the MRT, and Little India around the corner.

Ok hotel at a great price!

from mailmannz
We stayed here early April 2005 for 3 nights and while the hotel itself was rather dated for the £27 we paid a night it was a steal!!! Located just around the corner from the Raffles Hotel (Singapore Sling anyone?:) and also situation inside Little India it is a nice enough hotel.

Dont expect too much...but again, for the price we paid it couldnt be beaten (well, ok perhaps it could but we are used to paying the extortion prices asked by English hotels!!! You try getting a hotel for £27 a night in England :)

There is also an excellent food court across the road in the Raffles Hospital, $3SD (about £1) for an excellent feed of chicken and rice or for $4 you get chicken and noodles.

The room we stayed in (a delux double, hotel speak for bog standard room) was ok...but it was quite a big room. The bathroom itself could have done with a bit of a revamp (the entire hotel could have done with a bit of a face lift too). But the rooms were pretty sound proof and comfortable so at the end of the day no complaints there.

Hotel also has a good pool with a restaurant attached too it.

Would I recommend it? Yes I would for budget the concious traveller looking for nothing more than a bed and perhaps a pool to swim in and maybe a plate or two of chicken and rice :)

Jewel of Little India

from ErikdR
Simply a middle-of-the-road Singapore hotel, which still means far above the Asia-Pacific standard. Good restaurant, nice pool. Around the corner of 'Little India', the most exotic (and also the most dirty...) part of this island state. Our room was on a corner overlooking Little India and in some ways a bit crammed - e.g. cupboard in the far corner inviting one to hit the ceiling. But overall fair value for money. More for a stopover than for a longer SG trip, though the MTR station is almost across the street allowing for easy connections.
