Golden Knight Inn Watkins Glen

Today was Thanksgiving! So excited for my first ever Thanksgiving experience! Happily lunch was planned for pretty late in the afternoon so we had plenty of time in the morning to make and extra pumpkin pie and watch the turkey roasting in the oven. Scott's Mum was preparing some of the food to transport to Grandma’s place and we all headed off around 2.30pm.

Today was a very rainy day, grey and damp, much like home. So we set out to the Corning Museum of Glass. It was a pretty cool place, lots of unusual glass sculptures and various artwork. There was lots of history stuff too, as well as fun educational things (I liked looking ...

... really pretty. On the way back round the lake we stopped for ice cream. I had Butter Pecan (flavour I’ve not tried before), it was yummy but huge and it defeated me. I don’t think I’ve ever actually wasted ice cream before, it was heartbreaking.

Watched 28 Days Later, so now the British education extends to tea, custard and films!

... a 4 hour drive compared to our 45 mins.

Had a fun evening, went out for dinner and ended up having a steak in Ruby Tuesdays, where I also had my first alcoholic drink in the USA. I got ID’d! Picked up some beers on the way back and spent the rest of the night working through them. Good fun all round!

Cable guy due between 1 and 3 today so not made too many plans, naturally he turned up at 11am while I was in the shower. Happily he had stuff to do that didn't involve access to the bathroom until after I’d finished. Then we celebrated the return of the internet all afternoon, I managed to start this blog (hopefully I’ll keep it up for a while at least) and played some ...

... City with me sometime next week but sadly I don't think it’s going to happen. Had burgers for dinner (at Five Guys, Burgers and Fries) and then popped into Barnes and Noble to use their free wi-fi, still no internet at home till tomorrow. Was pretty late when we left so had a snack when we got in and a little more TV. It’s such a relief to have real tea, wasn’t sure how I was going to cope!

... section, complete with marmite, Heinz, Cadbury and Birds custard! Couldn’t resist a couple of pictures, it was so funny. Came back and made a proper American sandwich with 3 layers of meat and 4 layers of cheese. All this took most of the day so we spent the evening watching DVD’s (Battlestar Galactica) and chilling out.

... of hours in the USA in the queue to get through customs. The immigration / customs guy was really nice, I slightly expected him to be terrifying. He wound me up a little that I’m visiting a guy when I have a boyfriend back at home but was generally pretty cool.

Made it to my next flight after a bit of a rush to locate my bags and then I was off to Syracuse. Scott ...

Just a short note, for work I travelled to Elmira Ny in Oct 2009. It was a fun week, Elmira is a small city on the Southern Tier of NY.
