I arrived and checked into Pension Australia, run by a nice old lady, and which offered a bonus - there is free laundry, which she actually does for you. Again, the place was a little like staying at granny's house. I paused briefly on the pedestrian street outside of the pension when ...

Oviedo, Asturias, Spain and Canary Islands antoniusestrillThis is my last trip in 2008. From Madrid, together with friends, we travelled almost 5 hours to the north coast of Spain - Asturias. This is the mountainous side of the Spanish region which somehow provides a different landscape of green, rocky mountains, valleys and delicious food!
Asturias, Spain and Canary Islands digitalexplorer... by that same trickster, I thought..) though it was in a pocket in my bag all along, stumbled across a free exhibition of one of my favourite artists... though mostly I spent the day deciding what to do with myself over the next few. My vague plan had been to do a section of the 'Camino de Santiago' though after much to-ing and fro-ing between the Catherdral, the Pilgrimm´s Albergue, the tourist office and internet cafes, I decided that with the ...

Oviedo, Asturias, Spain valdellobin... about for a while. First of all, had the coolest experience last night. After the fam was all settled in to bed, I walked through town back toward the library where the internet is. Library was all locked up, but I hoped to connect tot he wi-fi from the street. No luck. Maybe I wasn't close enough? So, I hopped the fence and got closer and VIOLA! ... connection! So here I am, senior gringo ... 11pm - 1am ... under some flood lights ... working on my laptop battery with wi-fi, so no ...
Oviedo, Asturias, Spain and Canary Islands styrskySpain has it all- churches, wines, bulls, and that´s right hurricanes! After a night of celebration for the twenty first birthday of fellow pilgrim Eleanor for Belgium, we were greeted the following morning with 185 kilometer winds per hour and torrential downpour! What does a pilgrim do in this situation? You guessed it, walk. Now, I have met some other travelers (maInly from the States) who talk about the day´s walk, but I never see them on the road and find out later ...
Sarria, Spain senorburkeToday we are in Leon. To update you on the last few days: Day 28 - we walked 16km from Sahagun to Calzadilla de los Hermanillos. Ít was a lovely walk - we took the Via Trajana - which followed an old Roman road as opposed to the Real Camino Frances as that followed the main road and we fancied getting away from the traffic. We had a lovely cool day of walking with a fresh breeze cooling us off as we walked along. The terrain was very stony and ******* the feet but the scenery ...
