Today we had a full day tour of Rome with a car and an English speaking guide. We saw lots of ancient things. First port of call was the Coliseum which was only called that due to the colossal statue of the emperor that stood outside the building. Our commentary was really good and we learnt so much more than last time. There was fighting between animals, men against animals and men against men. Apparently Caesar didn't do the thumbs up, thumbs down bit but he did a ...

The guide was really good and told us all about the men and animals who fought in the arena and how many died etc. as well as about the architecture and life back in those times. Castel Sant'Angelo at daylight and at nighttime!

    Day 2 - early evening

As I stood silently from across the Tiber River with my eyes glued on the Castel Sant'Angelo erected a good 200 feet in front of me, I soon realized that the beauty of the Castel was actually the bridge that led to it. Built by Hadrian in 133 AD to access his mausoleum, the Ponte Sant’Angelo was absolutely breathtaking as I admired its round stone arches reflecting on ...
