We left Hanoi early AM on the 22nd for an overnight trip to Ha Long bay, a stunning Unesco Heritage site, 3-4 hours east of Hanoi. We were told not to cheap out on the boat for the overnight, so we went with a luxury cruise. Was pretty intimate with only 17 total guests aboard, mainly couples, one family. ... I was quite comfy until it started to rain. And not just a little rain, buckets and buckets. I made the mad dash downstairs to my room and got a little soaked, but it was refreshing. I then also remembered about fiddling with the switches and was able to get my fan going so I could get some sleep. Breakfast was at 7:00 and then at about 7:45 we went to see some caves. There were two hotels right on the beach, but they were both full. I don't see how anyone can enjoy such a lovely beach with a discarded juice box at their feet, but I digress.

The cruise between the islands was surreal and we enjoyed an excellent seafood lunch but we soon returned to shore as a precaution to the oncoming storm.
