    ... I almost started tearing up. No one else had purchased a bottle of water (they hadn’t seen it yet), and I immediately began offering water to everyone. "You have to try this! It’s wonderful!"     ... thing about the Chinese, this idea of 'face', which is basically keeping up appearances and not giving an answer that will displease someone. They want to always look good to other people, which plays into the fact that this whole school/development is unused, and only brough out to impress foreigners and government people.
