Vegas 5/06

A travel blog entry by danpallison

We (Dad, Mom, Ryan, and I) drove to Las Vegas to spend a week there for my 21st birthday. We got to the city in the middle of the night so we could see all the lights as we topped the hill. That's an amazing view. The bad part was that when we got to the hotel it was too early to check in so we had to wait about another 12 hours after just driving …

Arrival in to LAX and onto Vegas

Our first flight on the new 777-300 went reasonably well although the words "can" and "sardines" came to mind for us folk down the back of the plane. I managed to get some sleep, so can't have been too bad. The dreaded Customs clearance at LAX took an hour and a half. We had 3 and a half hours until our connecting flight so that worked in pretty …

Viva Las Vegas!

Las Vegas, perhaps more than anywhere else in the States, has the ability to polarise opinion. Some feel Fear and Loathing. Others think Viva Las Vegas! Sin City or Entertainment Capital of the World, everyone can agree on two points: firstly, it's not in any way classy (no matter how hard it tries) and secondly, if you want a good time, you’ …

    Gold Coast casino

some slight niggles - booked a smoking room for one of the party, but found on check-in that it hasn't been reserved. Shuttle to the strip was good, but sometimes the bus was full and it wouldn't take anyone standing despite being a 10 minute trip. Food in the buffet ranged from excellent to very ordinary. Rooms were a good size, but no drawers and limited hanging space.

    Great Value

We have stayed all over Las Vegas and the Gold Coast is the best. Nice staff, good room, great buffet, no kids and you never have to wait for a drink. Will will never stay anywhere else.Bob & Susan Roberts

    Great Rooms ho hum food

    from anonymous

For 35 a night this was more than great... Nice staff...fine room... The restaurants have cut the quality of the steaks some.... But, my goodness for 35 a night ...the difference pays for the rent a car I'd definitely stay here as my headquarters....

    A Great Stay!! Recommended!

    from lexiuslefay

Stayed June 1st-5th for bowling tournament. Casino is bright compared to casinos next to it, and not smoke filled at all! Lots of low limit tables and slots. Gift shop isn't as good as other casinos; hardly any unique keychains, and the mugs weren't all that nice. Bowling alley is a nice facility, great graveyard rates. Buffet is ok, but go to the RIO instead, much better. Pool was adequate but nothing great. Great $1 mixed drinks at the bar near the tables!Room was clean, and serviced well every day. Not the nicest, but for the price ($40), well worth it. Bathroom was small, and as soon as you open the room door, beds were exposed; no hallway like most hotels. Lamps were annoying to turn on, as was opening the mini window in the bathroom; make sure you keep that closed or you'll have dive-bombing moths. Air conditioning worked great!Overall, great place to stay. Staff assisted me with all my needs and was very helpful and friendly even though my party was demanding at times. Will be there next year, and looking forward to my stay again at the Gold Coast!!!

    Not impressed

    from anonymous

Stayed 3 nights with a convention. Does not have a non smoking section nor does it have good ventilation in the casino. Could only play about an hr before eyes burned and had to leave. However, the staff was very helpful and friendly.Never stayed in a room before where the iron was wired to the end of the ironing board and had to stretch a short cord very hard to get to use it. Even charged to use a local number and 800 number.I would say that this is an average to below average hotel for the cost. I will probably stay at a different hotel on my next visit.

    Great value!

We have chosen the Gold Coast because of it's excellent reviews and we were not disappointed. Check in took place within a minute. Room was spacious, clean, quiet and well maintained. View (1st. floor) was a large white wall unfortunately but it didn't bothered us. We didn't spend much time in the room anyway. Spacious and easy access parking garage with convenient escalators to the casino entrance. Off strip location was no problem since we had a rental car. Thumbs up for the Ports 'O Call buffet. The food was great for a very reasonable price! Friendly staff. Also a bargain was the T-Bone special at the Monterey Room. Overall we have really enjoyed our stay and we will return next year.

    Gold Coast was nice

    from topazmom

The Gold Coast has great amenities, with the bowling alley, free shuttle to the strip, free child care for children 2-8, etc.. The rooms were average, nothing extraordinary, but nothing bad either. You really don't spend too much time in there anyway. The resteraunts were nice. I would suggest that they have a guest information packet for new guests so that they could have all info(such as child care info, bowling alley lane availability, shuttle schedule etc..) at their fingertips. Other than that a good value for the money.

    Very friendy staff

    from SimTitravelinggal

We stayed Feb 7-8, 2003 and had the friendliest service of any establishment we have ever stayed anywhere. Every staff member goes out of their way to be helpful. Just asking directions we were shown the way. No one ever was impatient with any request. Room is par for the rate. Coffee shop is very good food for the price.

Gold Coast Hotel Best Kept Secret in LV

    from BettyCranston_RI

Stayed 3 nights at Gold Coast. Highly recommend it. Transferred to Bellagio for 2 nights and returned to Gold Coast each night for the gambling, restaurant and SUPER band (Element) in the lounge. Wonderful value!

    Outstanding Service!!

Stayed with a friend in early Dec, 2002. Good food, clean room, but especially great SERVICE. Will definitely visit again.

    Very Pleasant Stay

    from JimEd45

My wife & I spent 4 nights at the Gold Coast in April "02. The price was quite reasonable. The facility had been recently renovated. Rooms are small but clean and well appointed. Loved the low table stakes and multitude of full pay slots. They have a nice race/sports book and excellent restaurants at very low prices. The Honky Tonk Angels show is a real bargain and worth seeing. This great little locals casino is a hidden gem. They have a free shuttle to the Barbary Coast on the strip and also to The Orleans. They are located across from the Palms and The Rio. The staff is friendly and you get a better chance to keep some of your money. They take good care of you and are friendlier than strip casinos. We would stay there again.
