... immense fun! Arriving to a small village called Mutriku we turned into a campsite with a nice vibe and a cool view over the sea from it's hillside perch. Consuela the senorita was there to greet us and in her own inimitable way told me off several times for my tent erecting skills and general demeanour. Once erected singularly in square 3, not 4/3, this was an awesome sight affording fantastic views of the countryside. It would almost have been worth walking the Camino to get ...

Had the chance to sail on Asti V. A very small sailboat that was built in in 1929, it won a couple of olympics and it was owned/used by one of the kings of Spain. It barely fit 4 people comfortably. The trip was about 2 hours from one port to another, luckily I was able to steer the whole way. ...

Up at 7:30 today in the hope of getting into Bilbao relatively early. We always plan to get going quickly but somehow we never quite manage it. By the time everyone has eaten breakfast, taken it in turns in the tiny bathroom, dressed themselves in the cramped space, and then tended to the camper's needs – emptying tanks, filling up our water, etc. – the intended departure time is usually long gone. This morning, however, we managed pretty ...

Not much to report today. We got up in a warmer van this morning and made our plan for Bilbao. We read that parking in Bilbao is pretty awful so we opted for a campsite 30 minutes outside the city with a nearby metro stop that would take us in quickly. We decided on another two day stop there which meant we could take our time in arriving and only go into Bilbao the following morning. After breakfast we took a walk around ...

Bilbao was a little bit of a struggle. I have managed to avoid culture shock thus far with Germany adopting some North American culture (for lack of a better word) and the people's ability to speak English, though I have been trying to speak Deutsch as much as possible. However, I got hit by it here in Spain. Nobody speaks English and the culture and atmosphere made me look forward to going back to Germany.
This pleases me in the sense that I am reassured I am getting the ...
