... country. But I also wonder if it might be about skin hunger, the need of every person to experience nonsexual human touch. Separated from the support structures of their loved ones back home, they provide the haptic affection for each other that they would have otherwise gotten from family and friends. I would be curious to hear the students' own explanations. It's getting downright painful for me to watch ...
Athens, Attica, Greece tiara316... I feel like I'm calling my parents to tell them I'm in jail," she said. But I understood. The further into October we get, the more dangerous the seas. I'd rather they stay on the island for an extra day and be safe. So with the absence of the Santorini Eight, I had a whopping three students in my Rhetorical Criticism class and five students in Persuasion. This was a bit disappointing because I had spent days and days researching the lesson plan for Crit about the Greek ...
Athens, Attica, Greece tiara316... at conveying the lessons. Today she taught us about ordering food and the twelve different kinds of coffee you can get at a café. But most importantly, she taught us how to curse. We learned the nonverbal equivalent of the Greek middle finger and the Greek words for a$$h*!@ and fk. No kidding! Now a third of the words I overhear on the street are magically understandable. I don't have the leisure to observe Indy's pedagogical method ...
Athens, Greece tiara316... a nana nap, before heading to the restaurant for a meal. My friend was there again, and he said "You hungry again?" I ordered my meal and a couple of beers, and then went to the roof top bar, where I could see the Acropolis lit up for all to see. It took two more beers before I was ready to retire for the night. I need to catch a taxi to the airport, by at 10am tomorrow morning, to catch my flight to Thira in Santorini. The moral of this story, GET A MAP!! It'll save you a lot of angst!!!
Athens, Greece supalenThe Kingdom of Basil the Bulgar Slay** - Macedonia. We are now in Macedonia in North**n Greece whose favourite son, Basil the Bulgar Slay**, is not a charact** from "Captain Pugwash" (unlike Shag the dog, Rog** the cabin boy, Mast** Bates and Seaman Staines) he really did exist in Byzantine times and is still rev**ed h**e. Neos Marmaras. Neos Marmaras is a newish beach resort with excellent beaches and beautiful views all around. Howev** it is a singularly ugly and noisy ...
Thassos Town, Northeast Aegean Islands, Greece chickensafloat... was Noah and he was my brother Andrew's big brother at KA hahahaha AND his wife is Erica was a Chi O with Whitley! So cool! Greg and I grabbed our packs- whew, they made the flight over with us- and meandered our way through public transportation where we met some fun Canadians on the bus ride- can't seem to go anywhere without meeting these neighbors. Gradually, we wandered through enough of the ghetto to arrive at the entrance to a seriously scary alley where our hostel ...
Athens, Attica, Greece tarheeltalmid... awning on the street sipping wine with the Greek soldier. I was too upset. We asked at a few hotels for 5hrs worth of a room but they were all too expensive. The cheapest place we managed to locate was the all-night strip club who seemed happy to waive my €10 cover charge if Iain still paid. To be honest, I think they were just excited about the prospect of having a customer. In the end we found a 24hr cafe playing Greek dubbed Lois and Clark. I put my head ...
Athens, Greece claude_and_iain... we'd better get our washing done and luckily goodie had asked about booking a ferry for the next day to get us to Santorini. To cut a long story short, goodie and sheldon rushed off to book tickets, finding out that we had to leave at midnight that night in order to get available tickets, while law and I did the washing. We checked out (at least we got to sleep a bed for a few hours) and went to the port. Before ...
Athens, Greece pozel... Acropolis hill, the Parthenon commands an amazing view over the city and the structure itself embodies the essence of ancient Greek architecture (I feel like I'm writing a marketing package for the sale of a Tremendous Real Estate Investment Opportunity - The Ancient Parthenon). Dating back to the 5th century B.C., the Parthenon features 50 enormous columns around the perimeter of the building (17 on each long side and 8 on the shorter ...
Athens, Santorini, Paros, Nafplio, Rome and Florence, Greece nomad_chad... we left Spain- we realized we didn't miss it at all! When they arrived, we walked into the lobby (feeling a bit like Pretty Woman with our backpacks on), and asked for their room number. We walked around the city, had some Greek food, and enjoyed some of their hotels amenities before heading to our overnight ferry to the islands to jump into the Aegean Sea and get some relief from the heat! Backpacking sidebar: Just because you carry a backpack and stay in non-resort-like ...
