Exactly One Year Ago Today........................

Exactly one year ago today I was flying in to London, England not knowing a soul in this packed, civilized country! I knew I had distant relatives in Scotland and a rugby friend that I travelled to Australia with in 2003 for the Men's Rugby World Cup but none greeted me at the airport like I did a fellow friend-of-a-friend Candian this past weekend. It was best for me to figure it out on my own when I first arrived because I was excited for the challenge as many others are but when I spoke to...

Slobbing your gob on the famous Blarney Stone!

Kalannie, County Kerry, boasts a beautiful 10,000 hectare national park which is home to deer, squirrels and birds and fish species which are native to the region. The park came into being in 1932 when the Muckross Estate was presented to the Nation by Senator Arthur Vincent. An interesting feature of the park is Ross Castle, a fifteenth century tower house built on the shore of Lough Leane which was once the residence of the chieftain O'Donoghue Mór and is now open to the public. That mornin...

Well I finally made it out of Marrakech and to London. While Marrakech was defiantly an adventure, its a place I will not go again. The city was just too hard, being harassed every second made it almost unbearable. One day I took the bus tour which was good, the new city of Marrakech is actually quite nice, I didn't get to as much of it as I would have like with the fact that I got pretty sick and it was about 40 degrees out! So Marrakech was defiantly an experience, I think its countries lik...

Look Mom, Big Ben!

09 Nov 2004, 11:00 am London, Globetrotters Inn Hostel The flight to Heathrow was a mixed-bag - the staff on Virgin Atlantic was excellent, but the seats were a little narrow and the food was just as bad as on every other flight I've ever been on. I managed to get some sporadic sleep in the semi-comfortable reclining seat, but I could just barely see the first class passengers in their seats that fold all the way down into beds, and it just made my seat seem even more uncomfortable. I can't i...

London/England: The People: The English are a decent bunch, no one ever offered me a cup of tea though, so they lose a few points. A shout-out to old ex-pats in Bill, who we pretty much spent half our time in London hanging out with. He works at a bar, it was a good situation for everyone. Ah, many stories can be told of the adventures that were had, the pictures are good enough though. Except there is no picture of me sleeping under Bill's bed, mostly cause his room was so very small and we'...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Globetrotter Inn (No Facs) London

So,so...

The most important thing is: don't expect too much for such prices. In general the hotel is OK, but nothing more. We stayed in Twin room with private bathroom. The room was not ready when we arrived, so we had to wait more than one hour to go there. The room was rather small, but we liked it, but we didn't like the bathroom. It did not look clean. I would recommend this hotel to people who don't want to spend much money and those who spend more time outside (just as we did). Thank you.

Globetrotter Just Great

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Globetrotter was a great place to stay for my girlfriend and I. We stayed in a 6 bed mixed dorm room and couldn't have been happier. We stayed with two other Canadians who were good and a Danish girl. Everyone was friendly and came in at a decent hour (except for me!).

The bar was good... a bit pricy for travellers (same price as a regular bar really) but not too bad. The second hand smoke was awful but that was about it.

The entire place seemed to be run by Australians! They were still a really good bunch of people and the staff was really friendly and helpful.

Remember to bring your own lock for the locker and a towel for the shower. Linen is provided.

The movie room was shut down as was the TV room. The kitchen was good and them doing dishes for you was really nice. They have a bag room if you don't leave until late in the day and you still want to see a bit of London before you go.

All in all....We would definately stay there again and really enjoyed it!

Can't be bothered staff .. and not so clean!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Globetrotter London looked great on their website with loads of facilities and helpful staff etc.

However, what I found was .. 'a can't be bothered attitude' from the girl on reception who was more interested in her own social life at the hostel rather than the customers.

So the hostel could be a bit better cleaned, its not as bright and clean as the pictures on the website show. Its also a fair way from central London so expect to spend money and time on the tube.

Facilities are good at Globetrotter, but I went to London to see London and not to mooch in the hostel.

On reflection I'd pick a more central hostel next time. Sorry Globetrotter it wasn't so good.

Hostel was great and not-so-great

from belandseb
Positives: 1) Staff were very friendly and helpful. 2) Very close to the Underground station. 3) The bathrooms and showers were clean...hot water was plentiful. 4) The privacy curtains on the bunks were a huge bonus. 5) Had great facilities, laundromat, internet, tv room, etc.

Negatives: 1) They put me in a room where half were residents, so the room was filthy. There were several empty water bottles and left-over food scattered on the tables, which left a funny odor in the room. 2) They really need to do something about those heavy doors, particularly how they close shut. They were so loud every time it shut. Even if you tried to be gentle, the locks would snap very loudly. I couldn't sleep the first two nights because the doors would slam up and down the hall and also from the roommates coming in at 3am. Did anyone else have this experience? The following nights, I was so dead tired, I was able to sleep though the noise. 3) The last night, someone stole my cheap travel alarm clock. Luckily I was able to still wake up early to catch my flight.

Overall, I'd recommend the Globetrotter Inn if you're a deep sleeper, if you're traveling with a group of friends, or if you simply need an affordable place to crash. London hotel prices are outrageous.

OK for student housing type accommodation

from A TripAdvisor Member
Basic student housing style accommodation for a cheap price (for London). Don't expect much though and the cleanliness iffy. Easy access from Stamford Brook tube stop. Breakfast definitely worth skipping. You pay for all extras with a swipe card that you load up with cash. Shop that stays open until 12:30 AM. Wouldn't stay there again unless on really tight budget.

Just O.K.

from WanderingAlbertans
We arrived at 3:30 P.M. and room had not been cleaned from pervious occupants.

We booked this room two months in advance, and requested a room closest to bottom floor, and this request was ignored. We were put on the third floor.

The girl at the front desk was unfriendly, but found other staff O.K.

The bathroom was not cleaned well.

We found a more helpful, friendly, clean, and just as reasonably priced, hostel, for our return visit to London.

Now for the positive... big kitchen, nice bunks, close to Stamford Brook Tube.

Excellent Value in London

from Angie124
I just came back from a trip to London. I had found the Globetrotter Inn here at trip Advisor. After reading all the reviews (None were bad) I decided to book. I emailed the hotel directly and got confirmation of my booking quickly.

We stayed there for 4 nights. Everything was ready when we arrived. Our room was small (It's London, what can you expect) but clean and inviting. We made our way down to the hostel bar that evening. Pints are reasonably priced as well as the food. They also have theme nights if you are interested. Reception is open 24 hours and there is also a travel desk. I found everyone who worked there to be extremely helpful in any questions I had.

They have a full, and I mean full kitchen there with lots of room to store groceries. There is a Tesco (Supermarket) about a 5 minute walk away to do your shopping. And it is true what they say, they do the dishes for you!! Breakfast is included, it is simple but I was always satisfied.

The hostel has a TV room on each floor, an internet room (reasonable prices) as well as a theatre room and a gym. Most 3 star plus hotels don't even have these kind of ammenities!

If you are traveling to London I would definitely check this place out. For slightly under 50 pounds per night. I searched many hostels and hotels for months and this is I found to be the best value.

Any questions, just contact me via the email address posted. I am always happy to help out fellow world travelers

Great Place to Stay

from sdwc
Stayed for six nights beginning of August and I have to say, I am impressed. I usually stay at hotels but decided to go hostelling for the experience. This place is great - my wife, who's beeen in a few hostels before, rated this place the best hostel she's been in. It was very clean and about the same size as a typical London hotel room.

The details:

I stayed in a double private ensuite room. As stated before the room was large and purely functional, a bed, a dresser and a sidetable. Nice big window let in a nice breeze. The bathroom was large and had a standup shower with plenty of water pressure and hot water. Had a problem with the drain and they came in to fix it that evening! Having said that I did have to go take a shower in the common shower room and I can honestly say that while I was showering, I was wondered for a while why I spent the extra money to have a private shower when the common showers were great (but then, nothing beats the privacy of having your own room ans shower).

I was able to change the linens halfway during our stay with no problems. The flatscreen TVs in the TV rooms on each floor was a nice and they had Sony PS2 under them so you can watch DVDs. For the big screen feel they have a theatre in the basement which you can use for free.

The breakfast was nothing special, cold cereal, coffee/tea, OJ, toast and jam. It was all you can eat!

The kitchen was large enough to whip up some food and there were enough fridges to store stuff that needs to be kept cold. They do the dishes for you so you can go nuts in the kitchen.

It's located about 20 away from the West End of London but you don't really notice the time and is only a few hundred metres from Stamford Brook tube station in a safe residential area.

Enjoyable stay!

from airamVancouver_Bc
We stayed at the Globetrotter Inn London for 5 nights in May 2005. This was our first time staying in a hostel so we didn't know what to expect. The hostel was great! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Property was very large and safe. The room was clean and furniture looked new. We used the internet access which was great to keep in touch with friends and the general store sold reasonably priced snacks. The breakfast which is included in stay was nothing special but helped save money which is a plus! Hostel is located in a quite residential area which is easy to get to by tube stop Stamford Brook. All in all we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone on a budget.

Solid, new hostel

from Tad0
This hostel, located in Zone 2 of London, offers clean, and comfortable accomodations. It's in a safe area, located quite close to the Stamford Brook tube stop, so solo females should feel fairly comfortable walking back late at night. Count on about 30 minutes to get to Covent Garden from that stop.

It has a kitchen and a large dining area (and they do your dishes for you!), as well as laundry and an internet cafe on-site.

It did have a lot of school groups -- but they kept out of the way. More noisy are the numerous Australians who seem to both inhabit and run the place. Don't let them put you in rooms over the bar; it's impossible to sleep there, because the noise is too much. Like most hostels, if you're a light sleeper, bring earplugs, because the halls really amplify sound.

Everything (laundry, store, internet cafe, bar) is run off "smart cards," meaning that you put your money on a card, which is also your door key, and then charge things off that. There's no obvious benefit from this to you, the consumer, and it can cost you at the end, as they don't refund remaining balances on the card when you check out.

I'd go back, for sure, especially since London is so incredibly expensive.
