Matt and I headed off to the Koelner Zoo on the metro. It was lovely: very green, glass exclosures. There was a big family of elephants (about 16), 3 hippos who were having fun in the water and making loud noises and showing off their large teeth. Matt loved the orangatangs (the babies were playing) and the cheetahs (who were prowling up and down). A flock of flaming pink flamingo's and long legged ducks.

We arrived at Dan and Andrea's place yesterday around noon and enjoyed a nice lunch of soup and an Italian pizza at the local (and newly renovated) Italian restaurant a short walk away. We're not really sorry to be moving on from rather smelly Belgian facilities, but Germany/Austria has made us rather soft. Away by noon, just, and trekking north now over more bumpy roads. Most of Belgium appears to be shut on Sunday but we ...
... F1' skiing (if you can believe the sign, and gambling, with a casino as the town's centrepiece. It was bitterly cold walking around and we couldn't find a nice cafe so we retreated (or advanced) to the local airfield, which dispensed the coffee but was otherwise soulless. With the campsite (€18) just a mile back towards the town, we spent the rest of ...
