Only a couple of weeks ago I got informed about a volunteer position onboard the Africa Mercy, i.e. as a Media Liaison Officer. After having discussed this situation with my current employer, I decided to go for it! After the selection procedure, I got the official letter of acceptance: I would serve on the Africa Mercy from Jan - June. A new year, a new adventure!

Ignoring the typical grey sky of a North German autumn we headed out to the spectacular town of Monschau which was established about 1000 years ago. On the way we passed through Holland and Belgium to reach this small German town, an experience that is incomprehensible to an Australian mindset.

Found the market place where Andre Rieu does his concerts when at home. Walked around, lots of people on bicycles with no helmets. Nice town, but left there and drove to Soest in Germany by passing the busy Ruhr Gebiet. Soest was so so and we picked a place in ...
