The Isle of Skye

... of the afternoon was spent driving around the island looking at the fanstastic scenery, including the kilt cliffs, which are related to the giants causeway back in Ireland - evidently there are two sides to every story - the Scottish side involves the Irish giant running away (of course!) in fear, due to the enormous size of the kilt that the Scottish giant had flung over the rocks. <br><br>Then to the Sligachan area - a rather impressive mountain lives there, on which there is a ...

The Nessie Haka

Hey guys!<br><br>Well today opened, cold, rainy and wet - guess all the sunny weather is well and truly behind us. Onto the bus we got, and before long we were all the stome pretty waterfalls set in beautiful forest which are all the colours of the rainbow at the moment. At the falls is minigolf, an adventure playground and a mini harrods in the tea house, complete with wax Mohammed Al-Fayed! Random<br><br>Lunch was spent in Inverness, a large city ...

Where is Nessie??

This was our last day of our Scotish tour. We headed out of Portree and off the Isle of Skye. We stopped in at Eilean Donan Castle, place where they filmed the Highlander movie.. woo hoo one of my favourites.. 'there can be only one!' Lots of clans associated with this castle, the Mcleods the McRae's etc.. some lovely scenery of the Loch's and the castle.. and the weather was a bit kinder to us today. My only ...

... worthwhile (and hopefully worth the money, i'll see when I work out how much I've spent). I obviously won't be uploading the 4000 photo's I took but anyone is welcome to see them, they need only ask; and set aside around 5 hrs to go through them. This is Mike's log.......signing out.

Day 12 - Old McDonald...

... for reasons best only to the planners, winds its way around the housing estates of Caol, through some marshy land and finishes on a roundabout opposite Morrisons and McDonalds! Not really a fitting start or end to a National Trail! <br><br>What makes me smile today:<br><br>The sunshine - it was really hot today<br>The lovely people at the Great Glen Hostel<br>

Day 11 - The Happy Wanderer

Today's section sees a route up over the hill into Fort Augustus and then onto the Caledonian Canal through a series of locks to reach Loch Oich. <br><br>About four miles in I meet Ian, who is parked up off the path and is frantically making sandwiches to feed what looks like a small army. He's the support team for a group of 14 former Coldstream Guards who are walking the route to ...

Day 10 - Wombling-free

... down to Invermoriston. I'm sure it was worth it really!<br><br>Invermoriston sits on the junction of the main turn off for the Isle of Skye, and the road between Inverness and Fort William. It's clearly got a bit of an issue on the food front as it's got plenty of good places to stay (and my B&amp;B is no exception) but only one place (The Glenmoriston Arms Hotel) that serves food in the evenings! I have ...

The train, the train!

... station, we decided to drive down the coast to Castle Stalker and Oban. Castle Stalker is also known as Castle Arrrrrrg, for you Python fans. I really didn't anticipate this leg of the trip to be so Monty Python themed, just ended up that way! It is a cool castle that is set on a little island, so it is only accessible at low tide. <br>From there we drove down to Oban ...

What monster?

... swing bridges all of which were closed except for the last as we entered Inverness. We took seats in the clinic waiting room after confusing the triage nurse at the front desk with our overseas status. The clinic was crowded but after about 15 minutes a nurse took me into a consulting room where she did some preliminary tests after which Anne and I went to have a coffee and a bun. About an hour sitting in the waiting room again Dr ...

My Conquest, Ben Nevis, awaits me

... so worth every minute. After collecting a rock as a keep sake, we began the descent and made it down in 3 hours. We ended up walking through the woods in complete blackness, but we were on such a huge high that it didn't matter. Once we returned to he hostel, we showered and headed out for a huge meal at the Ben Nevis restaurant before collapsing into bed. The next morning, I couldn't get out of bed and actually needed help to make it to the shower. By far one of the best experiences of my life!
