... cool. We continued along the Flinder Hwy. to Streaky Bay. From Streaky Bay to Ceduna there are lots of sand dunes as well as grazing land for the sheep. We didn't see any cattle today. We arrived in Ceduna early in the afternoon after getting some literature on what we have to do to cross the Nullabor. I was able to get the laundry washed and dried on the line which was good. We walked to the beach and the rest of the afternoon to sit quietly and read.

... we didn't mind giving her a bit of a cuddle.  The reptile area was cool too, although we were glad to see them all behind glass - the top 5 deadliest snakes in the world all live in Australia. On the Saturday we took a tour around the Barossa Valley for a day of wine tasting.  We went to ... Chateau Tandunda, Wolf Blass, Langmeil, Maggie Beers and the Barossa Valley Estate - 10 points if you've heard of them all.  We learnt lots about wine making and then immediately forgot it all ...

Avin' a laugh in Adelaide!

Gidday from our last destination in Oz, Yep, that's right, only one more country to go and then we are back into the depths of reality in good old Blighty!! We arrived in Adelaide on the back of the Great Ocean drive unaware that the city was actually half an hour behind Melbourne and so we lived in the future for almost an entire day......very confusing, especially as Adam flew back to Melbourne at 6am so he was too early for his already ...

Adelaide - Glenelg Beach

In the afternoon, Alexa and I had a nice walk on the beach after an Italian lunch at Glenelg. It is a beach and little town with much tourism. Good way of researching the Australian beach life. And again, weddings all over the place. Also quite Australian to have 4 grooms and ...

(Another batch of) Frequently asked questions

... time their intensity will subside. We'll keep you posted. Who writes the blog? This is an interesting question we've got it from quite a few of you and we suspect it has something to do with this year's approaching deadline for Pulitzer Prize nominations. The answer is: it's a collective work. On longer driving segments (and Central Australia did provide plenty of these) L types the main stories on the laptop while G drives (and also throws in a ...

... would eat for some time waiting for me with my parents.  Finally someone emerges and says give her 15 minutes till she was ready.  The plane boards at 9:15 and that would put it at 9:00.  Angered now, I said screw it and went to spend some time with my parents because I won't see them for six months.  At around 9:10, we said goodbye and I marched down to the plane, not thrilled about my 13 hour and 13 minute flight in coach, stuck ...

Leaving Adelaide, third attempt

... for a drink in the pub. And two likely lads bowl in - Neil and Andrew from the Aberdeen Hostel in Northbridge, Perth. The two likeable clowns with whom I had many fearless sessions of reckless drinking. How we laugh as they tell me they were evacuated here by plane - because their train derailed in the Kalgoorlie area. They only gave the fruit picking lark about two weeks before walking away, disgusted by the scandalous working conditions and pay. So much for working ...

Leaving Adelaide, first attempt

Continued from ; Adelaide misunderstood I get the impression that Tony, the hostel manager, doesn't like me very much. First the parking ticket that's been re-addressed to him. Then the unspeakable disorder in the yard after three Poms drank Stella all day. Now he is confronted by a pickled cave man in Marks and Spencer's jockey shorts. No keys. I think I may go away for a few days and do some walking in the hills. I pack my kit and ...

... office. Strangely, I was able to stay with her much earlier than I started studying in the language school. Homestay is a kind of business and it was not cheap at all. As far as I remember, I paid 180 AUD per week including breakfast and dinner, but my room was private with a single bed, wardrobe, and desk and landry was also free. So probably the cost of living was not so much different from that of backpacers hostels. Her house was located in Hove, a suberb of Adelaide.
