Glen Mhor Hotel Inverness

Lovely view, comfy room

We stayed just one night at the Glen Mhor, but would not have minded more. It is not too far from the center of town by car (or taxi) and has a beautiful view over the river. If it hadn't been raining, and if we had had the time, the walk along the river would have been a delight.

Our room was large and roomy and faced the front of the hotel. We opened the windows and enjoyed the fresh (and cold) Highland air and surprisingly, there was no morning rush hour traffic noise.

The staff was professional and helpful.

We had dinner in their restaurant and that was a pleasant experience. As it happened, I didn't care for my dish, but my husband polished his off with complete enjoyment. Next time I will choose something more standard instead of something "Scottish"!

When we return to Inverness and want a good, moderate place to stay, we will go back to the Glen Mhor.

Nice, though Pricey

We found the Glenmhor after a futile half an hour searching for rooms at the neighboring B&Bs. While not our first choice due to price, we had a pleasant stay regardless. The room was relatively large (ours was in the annex) and comfortable. The location couldn't be beat, right next to the river and a short walk from the castle/downown. We came back after dinner for a nightcap in the very cozy in-hotel bar, Nico's. Breakfast the next morning was the standard Scottish breakfast, although we apparently sat in the wrong part of the dining room and got a bit of a cold shoulder from the manager. Otherwise, however, the staff was very nice. Recommended, if the price is within your range.

Lovely Location, Variable Rooms

The Glen Mhor hotel has a lovely location on the River Ness Walk; when you walk outside the front door, you are greeted by the skyline of Inverness along the bank of the river. The views and sizes of the rooms vary considerably, so if this is an issue, be sure to make a personal request. Our window opened to an alley and flocks of birds that made considerable noise. We found Nico's food and atmosphere to be first rate, and the parking was quite accessible. Don't miss driving the Black Isle!

Superb!

Excellent service, Excellent Accomadation - Dinner was Brilliant. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Inverness - Its central location was also a bonus.

Can't wait to get back

Our stay at the Glen Mhor Hotel Inverness in January 2005 was excellent.

The room was clean and airy. It had a wonderful view of the River, It had a bath and a shower.

We ate in their Nico's Bistro which was absolutely first class.

We will definitely recommend this hotel to our friends!!!!

Very Disappointing

We were very excited to stay here having read wonderful reviews, but were extremely disappointed. I'm sure this hotel may have been very nice years ago, but it has definitely gone down hill. The outside looked much more run down than I was expecting. I couldn't believe it was the same place as in the pictures I had seen. We were shown to our "standard" room, which had barely enough room for the double bed, the carpet was torn, the walls were filthy, and the view looked out onto a rooftop and dumpsters. We requested an upgrade and were granted a much better room with a wonderful view (though still hardly deluxe and we had to pay extra for it). While this did help to make up for my initial disappointment, dinner the second night nearly ruined my entire vacation. The steak at Nico's was terrible and caused me to become extremely ill. After being taken to the doctor I was diagnosed with an intestinal infection caused by improperly prepared food!

We have traveled extensively throughout Europe, America, and the UK and I have experience a wide variety of hotels, inns, and B & Bs. This was by far the worst place I have stayed.

Nico's Restaurant and lounge bar is worth a visit

We didn't stay at this hotel but we ate in Nico's restaurant 2 nights running and it was very good. An excellent choice of menu at a very reasonable price (very tender sirloin steaks around £15 with veg etc. and the languistines (mini lobster/shrimps) with pasta were £18 for about 12). Bottle of house wine around £12. The lighting was just right for couples and groups by being low but not too intimate. The lounge bar has big comfy chairs in a stable type building which is very cosy. Recommended.

Warm and friendly

When we arrived, we were given a room in one of the adjacent buildings with twin beds. Our request to sleep in the same bed was accomodated quickly and effortlessly. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, old world combined with modern conveniences. Convenient to local transportation and sightseeing. I would stay there again in a hearbeat.

Great!

We originally booked our room thru a popular internet booking agency at the Palace Hotel. But the day before our trip, we got a call that the hotel had overbooked & our confirmed reservation was canceled. Needless to say, I was quite upset. They suggested the Glen Mhor to us which was less than half the price and turned out to be a much better place to stay. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was great! Not only did we save money, the Palace bought us a bottle of wine as an apology, and we found a great place to stay!

The BEST taste of scotland.

The warmest, most traditional, charming hospitality I have ever enjoyed. Truely a fantastic hotel, and wonderful place to enjoy the splendour of the highlands from. Excellent wine list, delicious white linen dining. Cosy bars with big velvet couches! Fall in love with the hotel and the staff. Highly recomended.
