Off to Maine

... There's nothing he'd rather do. This was such a treat for him and it had been years since he'd sailed, let alone with great friends. We sailed out of Rockport harbor and up the Coast to Camden. Everyone, but me, of course, saw porpoises crest the water for a brief moment. Hilary was a trooper and with no complaint, trudged on through whatever sea-sickness she might have been fighting off. We sailed for the afternoon and then the feast began.

Day 29: Home Soil Produces Euphoria!

... even parts of Illinois. One thing common to all four provinces has been the warmth, kindness and genuineness of the people we have encountered. We have loved our three weeks in Canada and feel so blessed to have been able to have this experience.

We told the Bay of Fundy, "goodbye," this morning, drove back through the Fundy National Park and made our way West through New Brunswick. We crossed the ...

Camden...a Definite!

... with a couple of people that were there giving sail boat rides. One gentleman was originally from Chicago, so we chatted about that a bit. Another gentleman had lived in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for a bit. His best friend started a charter boat business so he decided to join him. They work in Camden for half the year and then sail to the Keys for the other six months. What a life ...

Low key Camden

... called Moody's Diner that she claims has the best blueberry pie around. So we hopped in the car and drove there. It was about a 30 minute drive and well worth it! Moody's opened in 1927 and moved to the present location in 1934 (after they moved Highway 1 a couple hundred yards inland). It is a classic diner right out of the movies! JB and Bertha Moody had nine children and at least the youngest of them, Judy Moody ...

We LOVE Camden!

... means of moving people and goods up and down the coast. Today, they're the means of transporting travelers on a more touristic and romantic experience of coastal Maine...but they're still here!

It was hard to find a place to stay but the Birchwood was recommended by friends of ours who've stayed there numerous times and it is great. We have a great view of the Bay and the room is very comfortable with all ...

Lobster Fest!

Hey everyone!  Well, we've left the big city of Boston-but only after dinner at Sorellina's and a wonderful trek through the Museum of Fine Art.  Dinner was phenomenal: Paul had the best lobster ever...I had Kobe beef meatballs on pasta and veal.  Yum, yum.  Friday morning we toured the museum where they had a wonderful show on three Italian masters: Titian, Tintoretto and Veronesse.  Then we we-right smack in the middle of Boston!  Both of these ...

Maine Summer-First stop in the Northeast

It's always good to see an architect when your life needs a redesign, so off we go to Maine and our friend Ken Chipman and his dearest Jennifer. He's been dropping in on us in Hawaii for years so we are returning the favor. Beautiful food, hikes and people. We even managed to surprise Ellen and Glen Hibbard and were treated to delicious lasagna! Mahalo!

Day 113 Rockport Maine

... Road" to Bar harbor and the Acadia park. None of the travellers had any expectations of what we would find in Bar Harbor, but we certainly we not prepared to come across a really busy tourist destination, with cruise ships in town. No place to park The Castle anywhere close to the busy main street, and the amount of people flooding the sidewalk reminded us of the town of Skagway in Alaska, with the cruise ships and tourists. We found a "park" for the Castle and headed to the ...

A day in Maine

Today we went to maine. On the way to Maine we made a special stop by Red's Eats to get a famous lobster roll. They were really good and surprisingly good. We also had whoopee pies which are just souped up ho hos. Those were also a good treat. Then we made our way to Camden Hills to see the beautiful sites of Maine. It was really breath taking. Maine was more than i had inspected in a good way. We had a good time there and it was fun getting to see and spend time with Grant and Lisa. Hank
