... is surrounded by forest on all sides and is the home of the hunting palace where the kings (at least the ones who had heads) would visit each summer. It also houses one of only 3 Royal Tennis courts in France. We went to a game whilst we were there. Totally insane, played with a cricket ball and use the walls on all sides to bounce it off. No hope of every understanding rules.

Finally we came face to face with an older man playing a tiny piano ( the word playing is used but in actuality he was more of an extension of the piano ). The mood was instantly lifted from a search for French antique/junk to a timeless jovial courtyard or bar that felt like a homecoming of sorts. ... INSIDE the original old palace building. Lots of natural light, unlike some galleries we have been to. Collection of impressionist paintings by Renoir, Matisse, Derain, Rousseau, Cezanne, and Marie Laurencin. Upstairs, 2 large oval rooms, purpose built in 1927, with 4 masterpieces per room of Monet's Decorations de Nymphéas murals (water lilies) Each mural totalled about 80 metres ...
... the freshest croissants we had ever tasted! They were divine. They had pain au chocolat as well which are similar to croissants but filled with chocolate. After filling up on our amazing breakfast we then headed off to Versailles to see the Palace of Versailles. The palace is a royal chateau which is a symbol of absolute monarchy and was largely expanded upon under the reign of King Louis XIV who was known as the Sun King.
