Historical Traveler Reviews Giolli Hotel Rome
myself and my wife stayed in this lovely hotel from the 12th to the 16th of feb. the hotel was not that busy but the standards were excellent and the staff were very friendly and attentive however the one complaint i have is the fact that they recommend using green line tours for any trips around rome. we paid 46 euro each for a trip to the vatican museum and sistine chapel combined. the cost of entry is only 12 euro and you can hire audio help for information on what you see. so effectively we paid 34 euro for a fifteen minute bus ride. please try the local transport or even better walk. the city is beautiful so walking really is a pleasure
We loved this place!
The location is terrific - within walking distance of everything - and the shopping on this street was wonderful - full of shops that are not real expensive but full of beautiful clothes & shoes.
Most of all we loved the concierge Antonio - he was so friendly and gave us a complete itinerary of the best places to visit in Rome.
My wife and I stayed at this lovely little hotel within walking distance of many historic attractions. The front desk help sometimes seemed a bit confused but always tried to be helpful. The room was large by european standards. The only complaint we had was the water pressure in the bathroom. Lots of great eating places just around the corner.
Great hotel, great location
Hotel Giolli was great! Spent 6 nights in May 2005 and had a large room with wonderful marble bathroom. Front desk very helpful and location was perfect. Did not hear any street noises or noise from other rooms. Definitely would recommend this hotel. Friends stayed at a hotel right down the street for almost twice the amount and had a small room with a crummy bathroom. Stay at the Giolli!!
Avoid this place!
Met only basic need of sleep. Room tiny and cramped. No place to really open one suitcase, much less two. Antique air conditioner very noisy, preventing sleep. Filter clogged and unmaintained. Opening the window only invited garbage stench from back alley below. No working ventillation in bathroom; stayed permanently damp and didn't smell very well. Cardboard towels. Management mostly arrogant and dismissive, when not downright rude. We saved money on bag handler tips - but only because there were no bag handlers.

Not so friendly but worth it
My friend and I traveled all over Italy in July of 2004. We got a great deal on this Hotel, last minute from a tourist advisor that approached us at the train station. We were a little apprehensive but decided to go with it. We paid $100.00 per night and it included breakfast! I was close to the main attractions and public transpiration. Over all a very nice place!
The only down fall was the rudeness of the front desk clerk and the hours of the breakfast. We missed it every time! It was worth it, can't beat the price
Not Too Jolly
We visited Italy in October 2003, traveling from Rome to many points South and ending in Capri. En route back to Rome we arrived one day early and needed a hotel room. We called the Hotel delCorso, as we had stayed there previously, but they were booked. They found us a room at the Hotel Giolli, which is a stone's throw from Termini. It was nice they could accommodate us, and the breakfast was plentiful, but the room - directly on the streetside with bustling traffic - left much to be desired. Bathroom towels were awful. Overall, it wasn't terrible, but it reminded us of a Howard Johnson and reminded us to plan better for the next trip.
We Loved Carlo!
The Giolli was wonderful! Granite bathroom, hard- wood floor in bedroom, modernized and our triple was very spacious. Carlo, at the front desk was extremely helpful, telling us what to do without purchasing a lot of tours and how to best use public transportation. He also broke the code on ordering wine at local restaurants. He has worked there for several years and acts like he owns the place. He is very annimated, friendly, and we will never forget him. We paid 160E for a triple in high season.
