On arrival at Anadyr Adventures we were all eager to set off. First we got kitted out by our guide Spencer, and then went through a few basics. The water ferry arrived at the dock and we loaded on. We had an hour and a half ride out to the start of the kayaking. In ten minutes we were unloaed and in our kayaks. It's amazing how fast time goes when you're having fun. We saw a waterfall, seals playing, and headed up a ...
Valdez, Alaska, United States usa2009aswmWaking up at Tangle Lakes we were met with a beautiful day. The mountains looked magnificent and the lake like glass. We quickly ate breakfast and packed up camp as we had to be on the road before 09:00 as they were closing the camp road for maintenance.

Just as we started off down the road we pulled around the corner of the road and were met with the sight of snow capped ...
Valdez, Alaska, United States usa2009aswmAfter packing up camp we were on the road to Tangle Lakes. In Alaska they have a book called The Milepost so you can look at landmarks along the road. It makes the drive really interesting. We saw some more beautiful scenery and a moose swimming across a lake with it's calf! We also saw more ...
Tangle Lake, Alaska, United States usa2009aswmToday is our 39th anniversary! Nobody will be able to call us, because there is no cell service here. We started the day with a bowl of cereal, coffee, and juice at our B&B. We packed our things and drove back to the parking lot at the footbridge.

Because we had reserved a spot on the half-day glacier hike, St. Elias Guides picked us up on the other side of the bridge and drove us to Kennecott. Our ...
Kenny Lake, Alaska, United States 2jgstlWe left Anchorage (again) this morning, heading East on the Glenn Highway towards Glennallen (189 miles). Just east of Palmer, the highway follows the Matanuska River, part of the Mat-Su (Matanuska –Susitna Rivers) Valley. This is a popular area of south central Alaska. At Milepost 101, we turned into the Matanuska Glacier State Recreation Area for a short hike and viewing of Matanuska Glacier. This glacier is probably the most ...
Kenny Lake, Alaska, United States 2jgstlStopped constantly on the drive up the Ric******* Highway. The day we drove down was hazy, and we were going to go back to take pictures when it was a clearer day; however, it got rainy and cloudier. So today we are taking pictures in the rain!

This is one of the most scenic places in Alaska. One good thing about rain ...
Chitina, Alaska, United States ranloWe took glacier hke to another level. Last time we didn't go all the way up at Exit Glacier, and this time at the Worthington, we climbed up the glacier amid the rocks. It's difficult, without a path, and we just created our own path. We saw some ON the glacier; they walked up the glacier, but we didn't wanna do that. We're not prepared. We just climbed up to a cave created by the ice. The view was spectacular. You could see water flowing out ...
Valdez, Alaska, United States mrdubyThe morning tour to the ice museum began at 9. It's so cold inside! 20 F, so even with glove, scarf, everything, twenty minutes' still too long. But it's extraordinary. It's dark inside to prevent the ice from melting. So the pictures are not clear.

AFTER the arctic ocean mission, the trip resembled more ...
Copper Center, Alaska, United States mrduby... about redneckville...It was even a little scary. While we were in Chitina we saw the Wrangell Mountains, drove through the entrance to Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, and saw our first-ever fish wheels. They are these really cool wheels used to catch fish. The fish swim upstream and the wheels rotate downstream, trapping the fish and dumping them into a bucket. Talk about easy fishing.... After we got back, we reserved my kayak trip for Wednesday and had chinese ...
Chitina, Alaska, United States mrshaworth... than that around Fairbanks, which is fairly flat and featureless. It’s almost literally the polar opposite of Arizona, with the outback loop back up to Fairbanks passing through Paxson instead of Arizona’s Payson on the way to Flagstaff. I spend the night in Delta junction, which I guess would correspond to Winslow in the Arizona analogy.
