Just when we thought Venice was the most beautiful place we would visit in Italy, Varenna may have beaten it into second place. Neither of us can get our heads round the fact that we are actually seeing what's around us. The apartment is amazing and the views from the balcony alone are worth the trip. Claire has also befriended a blind cat so we keep having to think of excuses to go and see the lady so Claire can rub the cat.

... to visit a well advertised historical home called Villa Carlotta, famous for its manicured gardens, art works, sculptures and architecture. It delivered! (the photos speak for themselves). We spent several delightful hours viewing the Villas many splendours. We had parked outside the city limits and wandered along the lake front stopping for a mandatory coffee and plenty of rests under trees, as it was really hot again. On our way back to the car we were approached by ...

... Expo 2015. I actually like it more than I expected or remember. Leonardo da Vinci designed the castle defences which now has 7 museums inside (to be visited only in case of rain). It did have a moat and drawbridges etc but removed by another infamous European; Napoleon. I'm going to try and get a ticket to da vincis famous painting 'The last Supper' which I've never seen as it's been in restoration. I should have booked it ...
