... and sumac all ground together. I am totally in love with it spread like jam over hot flat bread with a little bit of oil. Its like pesto only better. The other thing that I have fallen for is Arabic coffee, or more correctly the Saudi version of arabic coffee.

... to a farmers market, the organic butchers, free range chickens and eggs, milk from a local dairy, buy products with no palm oil etc etc. Here it is near impossible, everything processed has either palm oil or MSG or both in it. The only instant coffee is Nestle, all meat is Halal and the end line product of the live export process that I have demonstrated against in Australia and there is no such thing as free range eggs. I am having to change my 'normal' ...

... quite close. The other thing that I have got used to seeing is the gardeners stretched out in the oddest places in the middle of the day, nearly fell over one lying in my little garden today as I went to turn the hose on.


It feel like it is getting slightly cooler or I am getting used to the heat one or the other but it is a relief either way and this week I am going to investigate the golf course walk....5.4kms of sweaty enjoyment.

I opened the door to see what the world was doing and heard the evening prayer call, I find it a haunting kind of noise. I've been in Dhahran for a week, the people have been amazing, so friendly and welcoming, I have been out for lunch / dinner / parties and today I am being taken shopping. This will be my first trip out of the compound and into Khobar.

In the morning we went to the grocery shop, the fruit and veg was amazing. All kinds of eggplants, tomato's, fennel, lots of grapes, peaches and beautiful mango's. The olives at the deli counter were amazing, about 50 ...
