We ate typical Bavarian food (juicy roast pork with dumplings) and drank wine, unfortunately Katja had to leave early as there had been a problem with her car but not before Helen had a chance to quickly catch up with her and Katja could pass on some local knowledge. We saw the Frauenkirche (a great building topped by two copper onion-shaped domes), Alter Botnischer Garten (an old Botanic garden rearranged to serve as a park, filled with vibrant tulips), and the old town gates. On our first full day we completed a guided walking tour around central Munich which enabled us to develop a good understanding of the history of both recent Munich and mediaeval Bavaria. Nymphenburg Palace and gardens was an easy distance from our apartment. Built as a summer residence, the owner originally had a series of canals built to link his palaces together and ...

After only 24 hours in Rothenburg, we took the Romantic Bus to Munich. The ride was five hours long with three stops before hitting Munich. The bus didn't leave till early afternoon, so we had the morning to walk around Rothenburg. We stored our bags at a souvenir shop recommended by our guide as a place to hold bags for free.
