Day 76 - Cali - Muy peligroso

We were able to checkout of our hotel, El mirador, in Perriera, very early and catch a taxi to bus terminal. We booked tickets on a collectivo to Cali,it was estimated to take 3 hours, costing $12mil pesos each. We got a two for one deal for the children.

We quickly grabbed some empandas and papas, which weren't all that great. I ate most of them, no-one else seemed interested.

We arrived 3 hours later in Cali at around midday. We unloaded all our gear ...

... for granting miracles. A wonderful introduction to the country. Next stop was Pasto, a busy little city with a handful of cathedrals and an early curfew. It was here that Bron managed her second haircut of the trip, total success at only $6.50! She's not sure how she'll ever go back to US salon prices. Although we only planned to stay in Pasto a day or two, our first ...

Sexuality put to the test

The heart said "keep going, push on a little further", but the head said, "hey now, easy boy you´ve done enough, you ain`t got the time or the money". They both gave sound arguments, but the head won in the end. When reason gets in the way it has the effect of often ruining the party. ....wait a second....rewind..... "when reason gets in the way", is that what I said.....I sound like those late night religious preachers on US cable. God fearing ...

... a bit worse) game so we took cover until it cooled down. The police were called in and all! The funniest thing is afterwards Bill and I seemed to be the only ones who stayed in the pub (oh.. and "happy" the local drunk who wanted to dance with us...). After the game we headed back to our hotel a little happier and having enjoyed our night... We had planned to go to the zoo the next day but ...

Moving to Colombia

... guerrillas attacking people in Cali as well as the cartels doing their thing and there were always the threats of kidnappings. In fact, two days in a row, I personally witnessed someone being kidnapped in a Toyota Land Cruiser (or is it land rover??). The driver was driving along and the passenger was holding a gun to the driver's head. Two days in a row! What are the odds of that anywhere else? Other bits that ...

Cali Colombia-Summary of Trip-Advice/Suggestions

... was completely unorganized!! Oh my stress level went through the roof. ***By the way, for those with dual citizenship with colombia, we were told we had to leave Colombia with our Colombian passport. Not true. My father left the US using his American passport and left Colombia with the US passport. If he would've left with the Colombian one, he would've been charged some major taxes. He was still asked for it sometimes ...

The Bungling Fool

... room with tables and booths ascending upwards around it. People would wait for a song they liked, pair up and dance like professionals til the song was over. The floor would then clear entirely and would only fill up again after the next song started. Here, if you couldn't dance you were nothing. I was nothing. I wanted to stay anyway but me 2 left feet were so ashamed they just walked me out the door. The next day was one of the best hangover days i've ever had in my ...

In the sultry heat of Cali

... into a hotel on one of the main roads in the town. We were both quite tired & hungry so went out to get some food. Even late at the night, it pretty hot but there was a cooling breeze blowing. There were lots of people sitting outside in cafes and bars and all we could hear was salsa music. Yep we had definately landed in the salsa capital. The women were very good looking but its a shame I can't say the same for the men. The ...

... wife, Andrea and new baby, Isabella. We spent four days with them checking out Cali, visiting Andrea`s Primary School, cuddling Isabella, watching a movie that was better in Spainish than English and listening to Ben`s Colombian band who have made their instruments out of recycled materials and sampling the local food and drink. We had a really great time in Cali. From here we will catch a bus across the border to Quito, Ecuadors capital city.
