Day 3- Traveling to My Mom's Hometown

... a ladle method.

I forgot to mention that there were three unique things I learned today. First, when traffic slows down very quickly on the highway people put on their hazard lights to warn the people behind them. Second, even though it is not suppose to be this way…. Cars have the right away, not people. Third, in America women come first then men. In Korea it is the opposite… Men come first and women come second. Now that is awesome.

... to meet the President for a special tour of the Facitiles.

First we went a large viewing room and it was only the four of us just watching a video about the beginnings of the Corporation. Usually you need 150 people to view the video but special privlages are AWESOME. Then we went through hallways filled with the man that started everything. This man Asan was a hard worker that ...

These deep city lights...

... relax and know that you are going somewhere... but not have to worry about any of the detail for the time being. You feel like you're moving somewhere but don't have to suffer the stress. That's a nice feeling, to be able to just plug into your ipod and watch the scenery pass by - or indulge in a game of Animal, Vegetable, Mineral or Mango or even Geopolitical Entities if you're lucky! Miss you all xxx

... least I saw it for about five minutes! Another thing I did in Seoul: I bought (yet) another digital camera, the Panasonic DMC-TZ3 for about 200 euro. My Ricoh was half broken and there were spots on my camera lens. I will keep that one as a back-up now. So all the pictures from after Seoul are taken with this new camera. The last daytrip which I did from Seoul was to the North Korean border at Panmunjom. Here you have the possibility to feel the very real ...

... said he had something important for me. What did I get? A Jehovah's Witness magazine. He tried to give Jeff a different issue, but he said he'd share mine. We then ran off, and luckily he didn't follow us on the train. We ended up reading over the magazine and there were some lovely articles on the evils of money and how one should only date someone if you think marriage is a possibility... "else wise it is like ...

Personal Geography

... father, all of the sons and daughters of my grandfather are still in Korea. I started by paying respects to my father's younger brother in Chunju. Together, we picked up my grandmother who was staying at the home of my father's 3th sister. After taking her to a clinic for a checkup, my father's younger brother, his wife and I took grandmother to the burial place of my grandfather. Koreans traditionally bury their dead on hillsides called "san so ...

More stuff that happened in Gwangju

... We were 'given' two kids each, who had made little signs for us complete with Canadian flags and our names on them. After telling the kids the mistake and making them draw an Australian flag on the sign (only kidding), we went off to make some sort of bean paste wrapped up in rice dough and a pendant. The kids were very excited and we told them all about Australia and how we ride in kangaroos pouches and eat dirt (not really). Luckily the day went ...

... bit stressed, they didn't seem to care at all - LUCKY it wasn't JETSTAR I guess...then took a stroll to the gate... It was such a short flight, literally 40mins we just seemed to be taking off and all of a sudden we were landing again - of course being the only non - Koreans on the flight we did draw a bit of attention....the phrase we learnt in BASIC KOREAN 101 "please don't stare at me" suddenly seemed useful...if we could only remember it..! We were met at the airport as planned by ...

traditional day-glo

while I do reccomend Hanjin Hostel, all travelers should be warned that the owner, Mr. Kwon is caring in the way I imagine an incestuous uncle to be. the main touristy spots in Kwongju/Gyeongu (depending on how your guide romanizes the Korean) are fabulous. the day was finished off with a "traditional Korean folk dance" put on by one of the snazzy hotels and lit -fabulously- with blacklight
