    ... when he got the invitation to live there from the King who was a great admirer. He travelled there by mule over the Alps from Italy bringing a few bits and pieces, including the Mona Lisa with him. It hung in his bedroom for a while until they decided it would be better off in the Louvre. They had a marvellous exhibition of models made from his sketches showing what an incredible visionary he was.     ... got to the maritime museum and enjoyed the exhibits inside. The current major exhibition is on Viking history and it was excellent and complemented the exhibition we had visited at the Roskilde Viking Museum in Denmark. The maritime museum also had exhibits specific to the areas of Cornwall and South Devon, as well as a special exhibition highlighting heroic and daring feats by women from the south of England while at sea.

    We encountered a traffic jam as we entered Plymouth and the last few miles were at snail’s pace. We got to the hotel early so we left the car in the hotel carpark and walked into the centre of the city to collect the train tickets for our journey to London on Monday.
