Memorial Day weekend in Santa Monica
Longing for some much needed sun and heat, we spent the Memorial Day weekend in Santa Monica for no particular reason besides getting out of town and enjoying the Californian life for a while. Although the weather was much cooler than expected, we had a good time hanging out on the famous pier, renting bicycles and crusing down to Venice Beach …
What!? You pay to put rats on you?
Where do I start with our trip so far!? To date we have had a pretty smooth run…. We have already noticed how much less effort there is in travelling here in the States.
This is the first time I have flown Qantas internationally for more than 10+ years, and I have to say they are now up there with the rest, which was a lovely …
Where are all the stars?
Today was our first and only full day in LA. After speaking to Laura (our unofficial tour guide) we had a plan. We got in the Mustang and drove, this time Jason had that experience. First stop was Rodeo Drive. I was a little surprised by the size of Rodeo Drive. There is a cute little section which is covered in pebble stones, the street has …

Historical Traveler Reviews The Georgian Hotel Santa Monica
Could have stayed in the Georgian forever
Just returned from four nights at the Georgian and were really sorry it wasn't more. Great location, right across the street from the beach.
The staff were all really helpful and pleasant, the suite spacious and decorated tastefully. It is a small art deco-style hotel with a 1930s feel, but it was renovated several years ago. I'm sure the hotel is not for everyone--especially not for those who want a giant Hilton experience--but for those who love art deco and old Hollywood, it's just lovely. By the way, our 12 year old daughter loved it, also.
Charming!
After reading the reviews from TripAdvisor, I was hesitant to book a room, but we were thrilled with The Georgian Hotel. I have travelled throughout the world while working as a Tour Director, and I was satisfied with The Georgian. The Hotel has more character than any chain that adorns the Santa Monica beach. Great value, great location, real historic gen of a hotel, and a GREAT BREAKFAST! Definitely get the bed and breakfast rate - and enjoy dining on the front porch. I suggest asking for a room on the higher floors, as the street below can get noisy. AND - don't worry about the elevator complaints on the earlier reviews - the staff are happy to take you up on the service lift that is just as nice as the guest lift. The Aveeda products are a nice touch, too. Enjoy!
Not very impressive...
Nice location and clean, but the staff was rude at check in, and the restaurant service and food terrible..
The Georgian is too historic for its own good
I went to this place in July, and was VERY unimpressed. For the price I spent, which was around $220/night, I was expecting to be spending the night in an elegant hotel, with a great view. The view is fantastic, and the location cannot be beat, however, this hotel needs to be gutted and redone, the historic piece of this includes: 2 elevators that are EXTREMELY slow, my bathroom smelled like sweat ALL the time (disgusting), the rooms themselves were far from glamourous, and the TV was from the 1981. The staff misplaced my co-workers reservation, even though she and I confirmed the same day with our travel agent. All in all, it was wasted money, the only positive was the porch which was nice in the evening time.
Romantic L.A. suite
Stayed for five days with my wife in a beautiful ocean view suite .
Nice hotel, good price. Complain: I reservired a smoked suite and got non-smoked.
Would definitely return to The Georgian!
Stayed for four days in a beautiful suite with French doors, wonderful appointments, and large bathroom. The hotel itself is an elegant, restored, art deco building in a great location close to the famous Santa Monica pier and the 3rd Street Prominade. The staff is friendly and accomodating. The only reason that we heard the street noise is because we kept the large picture window open so that we could hear the ocean across the street! The ocean view was breath-taking.
We loved it!
We stayed at Georgian in August. What a wonderful place to be. We were pampared and taken care off in every respect. The staff was attentive, the room was spacious, the location perfect. It is close to promenade, and beach. Most of all we loved breakfast on veranda. This is a place to relax.
Nice room but noisy location
Stayed for 3 nights in a suite with wife and two teenage boys.Quite a luxurious room with a massive Kingsize bed leading through French Doors to large lounge with sofa bed and rollaway. Aircon excellent and very quiet.Bathroom huge All immaculate. Room at back of hotel with no view at all.No double glazing and a noise easily intrudes. I imagine that the very busy road at the front of the building would make rooms at front noisy.Cross road to Santa Monica beach and Pier. Santa Monica is a great place to stay and to get to the various attractions.Staff were good.
Not for business
A great location, and very elegent Deco architecture. But watch out for the indifferent staff, the slow elevators, the erratic phone system, and some very small bathrooms. Be careful, too, where they put you as some of the rooms are subject to 4AM garbage removal noise and other not so great "outside influences", i.e., noise. No full service restaurant, no conference facilities to speak of. If you're in the area on business, it's probably not a great choice. If you're just looking for a half-decent tourist hotel in a great location, this probably will meet your needs if you can get a good enough rate on your room.
Historic Charm and Wonderful Staff
Such a great site for a hotel. Beautiful porch and sunsets. Very pleasant staff, everyone was so nice. Excellent breakfasts, close to everything. Elevator is slow and a little noisy. If you can afford a suite, you will love it.
