As this was my second move from a hotel during my trip I was much better packed and prepared, but was not ready for the pain that come along with the realisation of that I was leaving to go to my last activity before leaving Germany. This was something I didn't feel when I departed from Cologne, but I could not escape at the time. I think it is because I spent a lot more time in Dusseldorf, gathering fonder and stronger memories, than at Cologne. I hoped ...

    Walking with Gladioli

The final day just needed a small 'push a little harder'. With the benefit of hindsight, I really don't know how I finished the walk last year. This time I had no blisters, none, zero, zilch, and apart from tired legs, no real pain. Last year I succeeded through the use of heavy duty pain-killers and sheer determination. At the top of one hill, one family had provided seats, a ...

In support of the LGBT community, everyone was wearing pink, that is to say, many people were. I put on my lilac shorts. It was the best I could do at short notice. Reina was much better planned and sported a fine pair of pink bunny ears and fuscia coloured net gloves. Other walkers had gone to even more extreme lengths - clown outfits with pink wigs, pink aprons and a thong, sequinned hats, feather boas... It was a total riot of colour and design. I spent ...

Day 82... A train tour of Germany!

... to the other side of Germany we needed to leave today. Germany has these wonderful transport deals for young people and those travelling in groups. It's such a great incentive to use public transport. The weekend special ticket, which is what we purchased, is 42 euros and enables 1-5 people to travel anywhere in Germany providing its on regional trains. So the one ticket covers all people and it's unlimited travel within Germany from midnight until 3am the ...
