... the 2 Kms to town. Stunning views from the rocky hillsides to the harbour and fishing boats and stone built whitewashed houses. Apparently Richard Gere and Ali McGraw both have houses here. Interestingly, houses here are passed on from mother to daughter. Bad luck Kimbo! Would have been nice! ... off-road beach, Seitani, very pretty but still with a couple of dozen people. And by stopping at several hill villages on the return, the best of which was Lekka, very poorly signposted from the south (ask in Marathakampos), but easier from Karlovasi in the north. Approaching these villages in the hills, some of the switchbacks are so tight that you almost have to look in the rear-view mirror to see the road ahead, but ...

... massive beauty and wonder of it to grey matter rather than memory chip. Wall upon wall of painted murals, carvings from medium to minute, tiny chapels, the smell of bees wax, hand woven gold embroidered vestments, silver and gold vessels with the most intricate detail, original documentation of payment required of peasants, dour attendants wandering about eyeing up your skimpy touristy clothing and daring you to touch anything.... ...
