Here are some history / geography facts about the Broads courtesy of Chris, our river cruise skipper. There are 3 rivers in the northern broads and 3 in the southern broads. A 'broad' is another term for a lake but they are not natural lakes. Back in medieval times, there was no coal and few trees for firewood so peat was collected and burned. Over time, the peat pits got deeper and deeper. These pits were dug near the rivers so that the peat could ...

The day of the Autumn Equinox - the hours of day and night are of equal length today. Its only 8.30am and Ian has already been up and exploring. Wandered down to the Castle, discovered the Royal Arcade and the 'Jamie's Italian' Restaurant which we have now booked online for dinner tonight. Heading to Wroxham today for a cruise on the Broads. We arrived with plenty of time to spare so wandered around Wroxham (one side of the ...

We travelled further up the coast to check out Winterton-on-Sea which is a cute little seaside village where one of Ian's work colleagues lived as a child. The countryside, especially on the road from Norwich to Great Yarmouth was flat with lots of horses as well as cows in the fields. There were a ...

... Today its foggy in Norwich. The fog may lift by lunchtime. Our accommodation is fantastic - a small but very well appointed apartment not far from the city centre. A bit noisy as we've had the windows open (but nowhere as noisy as the Gower street accommodation in London in 2011). Hope that tonight we'll sleep better. Collected the car - its a bright yellow Citreon DS3. Ian only got slightly lost on the way back from Norwich airport with the ...
