    Wytheville in Wythe County… pronounced WITH-ville in YTH
    County… my trivia du jour. Anyway I had to stay here another day to find
    that out. Actually- it's Memorial Day
    weekend… this and Labor Day weekend pretty much assure campgrounds are full
    with longstanding reservations. The
    owners here were most gracious and allowed me to stay in their last remaining
    camping cabin though ...

    ... Additionally, sometime yesterday the safety glass in the cabover bunk escape window exploded, sending glass everywhere. Put on a temporary repair (Gorilla Tape) when we stopped for the night tonight. Gorilla Tape is the successor to Duct Tape and MUCH stronger.

    ... about 20 other people were camped out as well, which you could reach by stepping across about 15 feet of rocks in the stream. That night, though, it started raining and, worried about being stuck on the island the next day, Jersey Girl and I shifted into the main camp and cowboy camped (i.e. - just slept on the ground with our pads instead of in our tents or hammocks) under this massive tarp some guy had set up.     ... as well, which was pretty cool. Add in the rabbit I saw by the shelter and all the birds I normally see, and the day was probably the one with the most wildlife in it so far. The next day started out in a sort of annoying way. As I headed up into some more highlands, I crossed a horse trail with a sign on it saying that the Scales, which the AT was also going to, was one mile down the trail.     After an excellent pancake breakfast at Susie's Kitchen, we headed out about 9:30. Susie lead us back down the mountain.
