Today started with our daily walk around Enkhuizen. A few highlights today included finding a beautiful park where we found an emu, some deer and alpacas. We also watched some maintenance being done on the pylons on the canals. We looked at some wonky walls, nothing seems square in the old parts of the towns and wandered down a street decorated in preparation for the World Cup, the Dutch love their soccer and national team, orange everywhere. ... Dad sussed this out early in the day so at 12 noon we went back to one of the traditional houses and had a meal with the volunteer and a German couple. We were served bruin bonen met spek en syroop (brown beans with onion and bacon) and rijs met zieker en kaneel (rice pudding with cinnamon sugar). It was raining very heavily this morning so no one was in a rush to get up. We had tea in bed for 3 of us and then the request for bacon (should have said before that this smoky bacon was brought by Dawn), beans, egg and mushrooms for breakfast.
