We begin at Villadangos del Paramo and arrive exhausted into Astorga, 9 hours later. It is a challenging day which begins with mass at St James, a beautiful church with Santiago riding proudly on his white horse, sword in the ready slaying a Moor.
The two ladies at the church, who had unlocked its doors, we're arranging the most beautiful …

I didn't have it in me to write anything last night. Had hot chocolate ( in order to use the toilet) before the first …

The roads were quite busy on both ends of the journey and again we encountered a toll (12.85). The landscape has certainly changed and it is definitely looking a little more Celtic in places. The journey took around 2hrs 20mins and the campsite (El Estral - €22) seems nice enough. We parked up ...

... by dressing up as a scarecrow and a skeleton and will walk in these costumes today. Sam and Ellie are great fun and bring their own Aussie originality to the Camino. Rabanal marks the staging post before the mountains and we book into a hotel where there are fluffy towels, clean white sheets and a bath - luxury! At 4.30 In the afternoon, I am fast asleep and will sleep soundly until the ...
