    ... br> The basilica of St Apollinaris in Classe was built in 549, for the port base, it is in a music working area, the church blocks are 4cm thick, layered with lime in a reddish colour, their was 2 rows of monolithic columns, mosaic floors, alters and wooden rafter ceilings. There was a statue of Roman Augustus & some wire buffalo outside, had a beer used the WC, back on the bus. Lunch stop at an auto grill, ...

    ... of St Francis' parents home.

    Our journey in Assisi was coming to a close but not before we headed down the hill to Basilica de Santa Marie degli Angeli. This basilica contains a tiny church inside it that is said to be the place where St Francis prayed during his later years. Unfortunately mass was just beginning and we did not want to interrupt given our traveling backpacks were with us.

    While the students and Lynn had the opportunity to enjoy a few days with an Italian Family, the rest of us (Michele, Arlene, Felipe, and I) spent some quality time at the local Holiday Inn Express in Foligno. After having breakfast, we had a lazy day and eventually went into the city center for some lunch. We found a fabulous seafood restaurant where I ended up having some pasta in a tomato sauce ...

    ... in these caves and attached some of them by mining connections for passages as well as aquaducts. They had been there nearly 2000 years before they were discovered. There is still a lot of unknowns about how they lived, but it is a well done self guided tour. Orvieto was also a popular bolthole for Popes during times of unrest in Rome, and this vast deep well was available for use in the event of a siege.
