Ready to Go

As a last step, I brought the plane in for an annual inspection at Avian Aeronautics at KPWT. I fixed and replaced some things I probably would have left alone if it weren’t for the trip I had planned, like installing a new a battery, replacing an old vacuum pump, and doing the brakes.

With equipment and the critical Antarctica permit in place, I was ready to begin my trip.

... we’d done a 600 mile day but we went for it.

We got up early, did all the packing we could and went to breakfast. After breakfast Dana finished packing and Brian went to check the tire pressures on the bikes. ... Pulling out stuff like rain gear, bike locks, gloves... We have boxes labeled "hot weather", "cold weather", "long trips"... It makes it all much easier.

Today we went through "riding clothes". Garments that we wear under our riding gear. Next to our skin we wear Under Armour type stuff. When it's warm it wicks away the sweat. In the colder weather it insulates. I've (Brian) lost nearly 20 pounds since June 1st. Today I ...

... a set up with a small farm full of variety. They have goats in the front yard, cows in the back, chickens, turkeys, pigs and a pet rabbit. And they have a good size garden as well with some bee hives for pollination (and honey of course) It was pretty cool to see the way they are self sustaining and use the land to its fullest. Definitely picking up some pointers for when we start our “real lives” and have some property. Ha.
