Today we drove from San Diego to John Whitworth's home close to Morro Bay. He doesn't have wifi so I can't publish this yet. We drove on 101 through Malibu. We stopped at Santa Monica pier and ate lunch at the Blue Plate taco restaurant. John lives in the mountains at 2000 feet in Atascadero He has a very comfortable guest room. Tomorrow we go to Hearst castle. This afternoon we went for a tour of Moro Bay ...

The keepers gave the elephants pumpkins which they were less than impressed with and with crushed them or threw them out of the enclosure. The other cool thing was seeing the Giant Pandas in their enclosure. We queued for 45 minutes, yes 45 minutes in the burning heat but it was worth it when we ...

... explored the park by foot, taking the monkey trail, big cat trail, hippo trail, and more. Our favorite exhibit was definitely the bonobo monkeys, who never stopped teasing one another and running around. They mirror humans in their play, hierarchy, and expressions. The young ones would run by an older one, and cuff him while passing by. If the older one didn't react, they young one would do it again. Once the older one had enough, he'd jump up and give chase: ...
