We drove straight to mount Diablo to see if we could park for the night but it was to be $40 in total which we thought was pretty extortionate so decided to park outside a good old Safeway to cook our instant spaghetti meatballs (Jenny's favourite out of our instant meal choices). ... to route 154, figuring that would at least get us to a town. It was a lovely scenic journey that eventually found us in Santa Barbara and re-joining Highway 101.
Pismo beach is a small coastal town, probably similar in size to Kalbarri. As we didn't arrive until about 5.30pm, we checked into our motel, dumped our gear and went for a look around.
Back home after a meal in town, we crashed for the night at about 10.00pm.

The alarm went off at 4:30 again after only five and a half hours sleep, we crawled out of bed and left Las Vegas in the dark, hoping to get a clear run but there was still traffic going both ways.
