Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India pranavsharmaShopping in India is not like shopping in the US. I had to go buy some clothing in order to follow the dress done, so my resident adviser took me on an adventure.

We went to a clothing store called Chennai Silks where there was a sale going on from a holiday, so everything was on sale and there were a lot of people. In America, when you go shopping, you just kinda do everything for yourself- you ...
Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India mim301... things in India is a bit mis-leading - They all tell you different times for the same thing - either they have no idea and are just trying some sort of answer or they just want you out of the way - I reckon its both. After a few unsuccessful attempts by me, i sent Paula up to queue (maybe she flutter her eyes). As i was minding the bags I got completely surrounded by a group of teenagers. it was their summer holidays (hence the sell out of tickets). They ...
Vellore, India feckinirish... it's a monkey. Or three. There's an awful lot going on outside the room, and at one point, we hear our veranda furniture being moved around. Thankfully, it's all outside. We wake up early the next morning (Saturday) and have breakfast on the veranda before we go trekking. There are all sorts of animal and bird noises coming from the trees and forests around us. We head for the jetty at 7:30 and the boat takes us to the main jetty with a British couple who are off to the coast so that ...
Thekaddy, India inahillebrand... like i was back in Costa Rica!) was the real challenge. At least when I did jungle treks in Costa Rica, there were no leeches. Miraculously, none of them managed to get inside of our double-layered socks (must have been the deet saturation before the hike) and we escaped leech free (I wish I could say the same for our English neighbor; her teva-clad feet are spotted with dried blood from countless leech bites the day before). It has been over a month ...
Kakkabe, India ruthiucsd... the nipple and moving back off down the roadside, browsing for tree fruit. . A bit later, the road started to climb. Up and up, and up I went, the temperature dropping with the altitude. One must drive slowly up here, as the local buses, when on the switchbacks and hairpin curves do not obey any kind of road rules, such as driving on the left side. It is almost as if they drive by Karma, and just hope that no-one is coming up from the inside. It is also customary to honk the horn ...
Ooty, Tamil Nadu, India bloomer... shaded by mature trees. The first thing visitors see is a large information board explaining, politely, how to behave in the zoo. Next to this was an explanation in laymans terms as to 'Why Zoos?'. I had scarcely digested this before my companions arrived. Marimuthi I had been corresponding for some time and it was as much a pleasure to meet him as it was the very keen and enthusiastic director. There are currently plans to move the zoo to a much larger site about 40km ...
Coimbatore, India globalbedu... to do (Chunnel, anyone??). The government had been illegally acquiring land through eminent domain in the name of the BMIC and then selling it off to developers at prices that reflected the future development going to take place there; basically making a ginormous profit in order to pay for the BMIC that will be generally unaffordable to those it has the most potential to benefit. The overall dodginess of the situation continues with this: Mr Naghabushan has been to ...
Bangalore, India lindsayann... load onto this website in the coming weeks, I just have to find the time). I have also been writing down lots of recipes to try out on all of you when I get back to the States (well, those of you who are actually in the States). Tonight, Chaya is cooking a special dinner for us and our friend Stephanie, who also lives in the same complex. Chaya is so excited for us to experience all of these aspects of life in India; she buys us exotic fruits for us to try, took us out to an excellent ...
Bangalore, India lindsayann... India. A place that was likely to have as much in common with Scotland as chalk has with cheese. We arrived in Mumbai refreshed if a little tired, and looked out a restaurant seeking some liquid refreshment. We sat down at a table, and waited for the waiter to come and take our order. "2 Kingfisher's please" He shook his head and walked away. I paused for a second, and then shouted after him, "Oh, can we have two cups of coffee then?" But he'd gone into the ...
