... from the 15th century and before. The stained glass, which you can see, was destroyed during WWII and remade decades later by a German artist. Beneath the sanctuary there is a series of tombs where, supposedly, the family of Kaiser Konrads II (10th century) is buried.
When we left the cathedral, we walked 150 yards to a museum of Roman presence in Germany. As you can see, I took a few photos in the courtyard of the museum, but Tracy and I did not follow our ...

... bailout for getting home from the inevitable "scenic" route. I took one of those in Heidelberg. I'm still not really sure how I ended up on the south edge of town at the end of a different bus route than I got on. But with the day pass, you turn around, get back on, and try again at no additional cost. Second time was a charm, I made it back past my starting point and down to the Altstadt.
The walk up to ...
... ourselves a little parking ticket for forgetting to put money in the meter. Luckily we have no idea how to pay it and well we "lost the ticket" so oops!
We got a nice little hotel in Frankenthal which was a little over budget but luckily had a kitchenette in it so it saved us money on food. That night we dined on stir fry and Chris made a great bacon and eggs breakfast in the morning. Worth it!
Then it was off to see my Mum in Mainz! Yay!
... is Robb? I worked with him ages ago at Disneyland, but in the ensuing (eek!) 18 years, he's become one of the foremost world experts on...rollercoasters. (check out his site, http://www.ThemeParkReview.com). He had mentioned to me months ago that our travel itinerary goes right by one of Europe's largest theme parks- Holiday Park, I believe it is called. I initially ignored this tidbit, because hey, we're going ...

Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany rush0517... that didn't stop it from being gorgeous, and to top it off we stayed in the most perfect guesthouse. It was a teeny attic bedroom in an old house, and the proprietor, with his white handlebar mustache, was direct from Disney-Fantasyland Central Casting. We adored the place. And I did have my schneeball, which sadly I cannot recommend as a tasty treat. It was more like pie dough scraps rolled together, overcooked, and dipped in sugar. Usually you can't go wrong with dough and sugar ...
Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany sql_spice... and sausages for dinner!
It was funny actually: my first night here Sebastian and I were trying to figure out what to eat and I saw that he had one box of Kraft Dinner from when he lived in Canada.... I couldn't resist! So we had KD with ketchup for dinner! haha Lisa I'm sure you will appreciate my craving haha.
Tomorrow I am off to visit my cousin and his family in Berlin!
Cheers!

... train and immediately took the bus downtown in an attempt to find a hostel/cheap hotel. I looked around for an hour or so and didn't find anything which meant that I was forced to retreat back to the train station and take a bus out of town to the HI hostel. I don't like HI hostels but as the only cheap place to stay in town, I didn't have much of a choice. HI hostels are a huge network of hostels throughout Europe run by ...
Heidelburg, Germany ericrg... needed an umbrella! It costs 6 million Euro per year, just to upkeep the ruins. They upkeep them because of the romantic nature and aura it emits. Weddings happen there almost every weekend, and only one part of the castle has actually been renovated for these purposes. The library had 13,000 volumes of books at one point, but when the Catholics and Protestants were fighting with each other, the books got taken away....but to make it up to the Catholics ...
