... was a bit of a blizzard. Also it was a Sunday so obviously nothing was open. We decided to go for a bit of a drive anyway, just to explore and have something to do. We went to St.Gilgen first which is a little town on a lake, it was very small but we walked around anyway. I'm sure the view from there would have been amazing if we could see it a bit better! We didn't stay for long, the snowflakes were more like big lumps of snow and it ...

We decided to go to Mondsee next which is another lake town. It was very pretty as it was surrounded by mountains on all sides. There was one restaurant open there which was right on the lake front and had a lovely view. We had some lunch there and watched the tour busses come through. I'm glad we got a car and can explore in our own time is all I'm going to say about that haha!

Day Twenty-four Friday, June 6, 2014 Fussen to Salzburg

An early morning breakfast to catch a 9:00 train to Munich to connect with the train to Salzburg. Today was mostly a train day – arriving in Salzburg around 2:00 p.m.

We had about 40 minutes to connect in the Munich train station – and since we have been there many times, it was familiar and comfortable for us. It really ...

... the pass would actually go up to the majestic mountains we were looking at. I thought the pass would take advantage of some low area in those mountains, but it truly went right over them. The road has 50 hairpin switchbacks, each number is posted at the turn. We stopped at the small memorial built by the Russian soldiers that came back after the war to build, in honor of the over 100 soldiers who died in an avalanche during ...
