... t find the need to go to both his birthplace and his residence. I only chose his birthplace because it was in the center of town and close to everything else I was visiting.

Then I went to see the Salzburg Dom, it was pretty inside but I've seen so many churches that I think I have too high of expectations for them! I also went to visit the St. Peter's cemetery and catacombs (if you know me at all, this should not be the least bit surprising!). ...

... here are amazing. Mountain peaks surround us. It's a little misty still but clearing slowly. To the north we can see Salzburg. Thousands of feet below us is Berchtesgaden and to the south the shimmering surface of the Königssee lies in the mist.

We make the obligatory scramble up the rocky slope to the final summit above the house and take in the view.

... a house full of windows over 6000ft up given to a man who was afraid of heights....but for everyone else, the views from the top are terrific.


You have to board a bus to travel the 4mile winding road up there, then continue another 450ft in a shiny brass elevator. It is slightly disappointing in terms of the actual building as it is now a restaurant/bar and the only way to see any other part of it ...
